jcupp.jpgJoel Matthew Cupp thought he was talking with 3 teen girls. Underage teen girls. The Trinity Oaks Elementary School teacher from New Port Richey, FL allegedly became so hot for his cyber-Lolitas that he exposed himself to his online friends.

As fate would have it, Mr. Cupp's alleged junk-flashing was actually done over the Web for the disgust (and perhaps cynical amusement) of investigators from the Citrus County (FL) Sheriff's Office.

Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum announced the arrest of Joel Matthew Cupp on Thursday. Cupp has been charged with four third-degree felonies: three hits for soliciting someone he thought was a juvenile over the Web and a fourth count of lewd and lascivious exhibition.

Cupp could face 2 decades behind bars if he's convicted.

Joel Cupp's story so far would be disturbing enough as it is, but it looks as though the good Mr. Cupp kept a blog. Normally that might not be so significant, but if Cupp is found guilty as charged, his blog might be viewed as a truly ripe example of creepy hypocrisy.

In his blogger profile, the owner of JoelMCupp.blogspot.com said he was 29, and a teacher in New Port Richey, FL. Joel M. Cupp posted a photo as well, showing a man whose appearance matches the photos published online by Tampa Bay media. If that wasn't enough proof that it was the same man's blog, he had this link on the side of the page: "Trinity Oaks Elementary School- The school I work at!"

Cupp called the blog Joel's Journeys, and his subtitle for the site was a quote from the bible, praising God and "our Lord Jesus Christ." That was all well and good, but a look at entries in Joel's Journey's showed a man who boldly professed faith in every post. Most posts ended with, "His, Joel."

The blog's archives went back to 2006, and many of the posts were consumed with bible scripture or praise. A fairly typical example might be this one from October, 2007. Cupp titled the post "Humbled by Him" and began:

I want to say hello to you all- I haven't blogged since October 7th! I have been rather sick since October 8, and today is probably the first day, well, maybe yesterday, since the 8th, that I have felt healthy. Starting the 8th, I had a fever, body aches, sore throat, nasty cough, and sometimes runny nose. I went to the Dr. on the 12th, thinking I had strep, but she told me nope, just treat the symptoms. I did, and I didn't get any better, and it was getting hard to talk, and my throat was swelling up. I called the Dr. again on the 19th, and finally got some antibiotics. The bad thing was that the morning of the 22nd I woke up feeling horrible and ready to call a sub for school. I went to school and fought through the day. I went to bed early and woke up drenched in sweat and feeling terrible. I fought through Tuesday, wondering if the medication was going to kick in (Wed. was my last scheduled day to take the meds). Wed I was in the dunk tank for our school's Fall Festival, and during the night I was feeling better. Th, I felt much better, and now today, I have just a lil bit of a cough.

Cupp continued with an explanation for the litany of ills:

Why do I tell all of this- just to say how humbling this whole experience was. I was overcome with the idea that I couldn't do anything. I had been to the Dr., I was taking strong antibiotics, and for a couple days, I wasn't getting any better, I was even getting worse. God truly humbled me through all of this, and reminded me that many times in our lives, we may have no idea what is going on, and why, but we can always rest in Him, knowing that God will bring us through life- we must trust in Him. God alone got me through this week, and I praise Him for showing Himself strong in my weaknesses!

A relentlessly witnessing christian like Cupp must have been a trial even to others at his church.

The nature of Cupp's blog, though, makes me wonder about his arrest -- if he is ultimately found guilty of the charges against him, was the constant testifying in his blog Cupp's way of trying to shield himself from scrutiny? Or was he desperately trying to fight what he perceived as demons within? [ABCActionNews.com]
