It only took the jury in Boise 3 hours to sentence Joseph Edward Duncan III to death for the murder of Dylan Groene.
The verdict was unanimous.
If Duncan makes it to Riverside County, CA, and a trial for the murder of Anthony Martinez, he may face the death penalty there, as well. California doesn't typically put the death penalty into action, but I've a feeling that won't matter, in the end.
Duncan should be studied by those who seek to prevent future "Duncans." Profilers, forensic psychiatrists, you name it. But then he should be given his punishment. I doubt he ever expected any less.
I must agree with the federal prosecutor in this case, who told KXLY TV, "We believe this is a good result, a fair result." [KXLY.com]

If ever a case called for the DP, this is it.
Unfortunately, I think that's just what he wanted.
Surely they WILL attempt to probe his sick mind, won't they? But can anyone believe or even understand the shit that comes out of his mouth?
I'm glad (if you can call it that) that Steve Groene lived to see this day, and I wonder if he would love to be the one to mete out the punishment...I think I would...
Posted 08/27/2008 at 07:21:24 PMSome good news. The sooner they execute him, the better. My thoughts are with Steve, Shasta and their family, I hope they can find peace and comfort in each other.
Posted 08/27/2008 at 08:17:01 PMI'm really quite glad this complete waste of skin is going to die for his crimes. If allowed to live, he would just fantasize about what he did and would like to do, and enjoy playing the bitch to some other inmate/s. He would never feel any kind of remorse for what he did, only for the fact that he couldn't continue doing it. He doesn't deserve to breathe. However, he's such a complete creep that he undoubtedly considers himself a martyr. Because, of course, it wasn't HIS fault that these horrible things happened. SOCIETY and the DEVIL made him do it.
I am so appalled by the sheer evil of this monster. I can't even call him a man, or a human. What an absolutely disgusting POS.
RIP Dylan, Slade, Brenda, Mark, Anthony, Carmen, Sammiejo, and the other unknown innocents that undoubtedly fell victim to this monster (like little Beaner Warner...I have such a strong feeling of dread in my heart that poor little darling lost her life to him. I can picture her sweet face in my mind; I think those big brown eyes will haunt me forever). And to Shasta, may you somehow be able to heal from the atrocities you were subjected to, things that no person should ever have to endure, let alone an innocent child.
Sorry for the long comment! Just glad to get all of that off my chest.
Posted 08/27/2008 at 11:30:54 PMI'm actually surprised it took the jury three whole hours to come to an agreement.
Happy, however with the jury's decision...can't think of a more deserving recepient.
Rot in hell, Jet Duncan.
Posted 08/28/2008 at 03:02:14 AMi cant wait for him to wait it out in the prison population.. he may not make it thru his 10yr appeal process and finally his appt with death.
Posted 08/28/2008 at 08:20:49 AMI hear they dont like child rapists and killers there.
I'm thinking that three hour decision might have been over "do we do the DP and let this waste die fast & easy, or sentence him to life and let the inmates torture him to death?"
One way removes him permanently from humanity, the other metes out the punishment in true eye-for-an-eye fashion.
Posted 08/28/2008 at 09:15:31 AMDo you know if Duncan was forced to give up his encryption keys? Do the authorities have them now?
Posted 08/28/2008 at 01:14:53 PMFoobar,
As far as I know, the plea deal that was reached in the state case only stipulated that Duncan reveal the encryption key to his attorney. Thus, because communications between Duncan and his attorney were protected by the attorney client privelege, Duncan's attorney is prohibited from revealing the key while Duncan is alive. Once Duncan is dead, the attorney can decide to reveal the key, but doing so will be voluntary. Given the level of public condemnation and shame that would surely befall him should the encrypted files contain information about other missing and/or murdered children, the attorney will almost assuredly remain silent. In all likelihood, when Duncan dies, the encryption key dies with him.
Posted 08/28/2008 at 01:57:55 PMPatrick,
there should be public condemnation and shame if that attorney DOESN'T give up the key. Any moral human being, knowing that he holds the key to possible other missing/murder victims, should give it up. To my mind, there'd be no shame for that attorney, since he doesn't have a choice about keeping silent while Duncan is alive.
