Why Did Casey Anthony Make All Those Calls?

caseymanthony.JPGThough early reports about the disappearance of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony gave the date of the Orlando toddler's vanishing as June 9, authorities have determined that Caylee actually disappeared on or about June 16, 2008.

Caylee's mother Casey made an unusual number of phone calls on June 16 and June 18. According to Fox News, Casey Anthony made close to a dozen calls in just over 4 hours on June 16. That's the day police think something happened to Caylee, though they aren't sure exactly what that something might be.

Most of Casey's calls were to her mother, Cindy Anthony. The same Cindy Anthony who has been the voice for the Anthony family since Caylee's disappearance, churlishly defending her daughter on national television while accusing police of not really doing their job. The police, with their single-minded focus on Casey as the key to what really happened to Casey's daughter, obviously frustrate the Anthonys.

But you know, on June 18, Casey called her mother and father, George Anthony, a half-dozen times in the space of an hour. It's worth it to ask why, no matter what really happened.

See, detectives working the Anthony case believe something happened to Caylee on the 16th. They say that Casey Anthony borrowed a shovel from a neighbor the following day. What the hell kind of practical use would Casey have for a shovel? Bet she's not telling. Also, someone was seen backing Casey's vehicle up to the Anthony family garage on the 18th. That could have been innocent -- but taken with the flurry of phone calls and the shovel, it doesn't seem that way.

The Anthonys act as though the media is the reason Caylee hasn't been found. Today Cindy Anthony said the following to local reporters, regarding a lack of tips about sightings of the little girl: "That is the reason why I got a phone call at 11 p.m. last night and the lady was crying because of that kind of stuff on the news that she held back for four weeks calling in a tip because she was afraid and they spotted Caylee again."

To me, the Anthonys begin to sound more and more like they are undergoing a slow-motion, family-wide implosion with every new article about the case.

And I once blogged about how the Anthonys seemed to enter into a kind of unwitting conspiracy after Caylee vanished. Lately, I've begun to wonder if any conspiracy in this case is really that 'unwitting' after all. [Local6.com]
