mccamylaw.jpgAn explosion occurred inside the McCamy Law Firm in downtown Dalton GA around 10 a.m. ET today. There were several injuries. One victim's clothes were burned off in the blast. The ATF is investigating. Dalton District Attorney Kermit McManus said that the suspect in the bombing is Lloyd Cantrell. Cantrell, who at one point lived on 1180 Beaverdale Road in Dalton, may have been injured in the blast.

According to the Dalton Daily Citizen, the incident may have been the outcome of "a bitter lawsuit." Minutes from a September, 2007 meeting of the Whitfield County, GA (Dalton is located in Whitfield) Board of Zoning Appeals contains a possible reference to the dispute behind the lawsuit involving Lloyd Cantrell:

OLD BUSINESS: (1) Bruce Cantrell – 1039A Boyd Road

The Cantrell hearing will continue to be tabled until the personal dispute between Bruce and Lloyd Cantrell can be settled.

Google Maps show Lloyd Cantrell's Beaverdale Road address to be less than 2 miles from the address mentioned in the "dispute" referenced in the county minutes.

Officials on the scene have confirmed that the blast caused serious injuries. Lloyd Cantrell's status is unclear, but at one point authorities may have backed off from the suspect for fear of another bomb. [The Daily Citizen]
