Shooter arrested in Orlando office rampage
***FINAL UPDATE***
Ashley made it all up. She's confessed. From KDKA.com: "Police sources tell KDKA that a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter "B" in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker."
Ashley Todd will face charges.
ANOTHER UPDATE, 1:15 p.m. ET
I changed the post time on this entry to put it at the top of the blog's main page because this information is interesting, if nothing else. This is the Xanga journal Ashley Todd kept up until February, 2006: xanga.com/ISeeTallPplRabbitDb8r.
It seems that while keeping that journal, Todd was a chain-smoking metal head who was, admittedly, really enjoying what must have been her first year in college, majoring in -- what else? -- poli sci.
Then there's this: KnowBS.org.
It's a site Todd began with others. According to one post there, she was supposed to be the "content manager." She posted the URL in her profile at Cross-X.com, a forum for "debate on the Web." Ashley Todd posted there as "thelilwhiterabbit." She had more than 650 posts to her credit as of this morning.
As for Ashley Todd being part of a start-up web site about politics called "Know B.S.," well... I don't really need to point out the irony there, do I?
**UPDATE**
In an interview on MSNBC, Pittsburgh reporter Jerome L. Sherman just stated that Ashley Todd also told police that she'd been sexually assaulted. Here's Sherman's article in the Post-Gazette. Money quote from the article: "Yesterday, [Todd] said the man sexually assaulted her, a detail that police said she didn't mention in the initial report."
Curiouser and curiouser.
Original Post
It's probably a good idea to make a little list of some of the more important aspects of the story about the alleged assault on McCain campaign volunteer Ashley Todd. The following isn't intended to be comprehensive. It is intended to support my contention that Todd's story is a big, steaming pile of b.s.
-- Speaking on-air to MSNBC's Contessa Brewer, police spokesperson Diane Richard said that police asked Ashley Todd to take a lie detector test. Todd did so. Richard would not reveal the results. Richard also said that details of Todd's story have changed in her talks with police.
-- According to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (linked below), the student from College Station, TX said her attacker "sat on her chest, pinning both her hands down with his knees and used what she believed was a dull knife with a roughly 5-inch blade to carve the B." A very carefully-rendered but somehow backwards B, to boot.
-- Todd didn't report the crime immediately. She went to a friend's residence, one mile from the scene of her alleged mugging. I can't figure out what universe you have to come from for this aspect of the story to make any sense at all.
-- That friend says Ashley Todd "went to an unknown hospital on her own" some time after midnight. Emphasis added.
-- A police Commander named Larry Ross told Pittsburgh reporters that Todd didn't make any reference whatsoever to her McCain bumper sticker when she first made a report to the police. Ross said, "I don't know how she came to the conclusion that he noticed the sticker."
-- People working at businesses close to the scene, according to the Post-Gazette, "were unaware of the attack."
Blogging for Salon.com, Alex Koppelman uncovered some additional interesting details about Ashley Todd. Alex writes, "This isn't the first time this year that Todd has claimed to be involved in an election-related incident. Earlier this month, she posted to YouTube a video she shot of a janitor at New York's Queens College. In it, she says, "this janitor took down all of my signs... and tore them apart... I am really perturbed. He closed off the bathrooms and is making it very hostile." The janitor shown in the video just happens to be a tall, well-built black male. Much like Todd's alleged attacker in Pittsburgh.
So far, I've only read one statement from a good source that lends anything resembling credibility to Ashley Todd's story. It was in the article published by the Post-Gazette: "[Police Cmdr Larry Ross] said the description of the robber as a 6-foot 4-inch, 200-pound black man is similar to that of a man who robbed a Liberty Avenue bank in recent weeks." That's it. And that's not much, is it?
The other shoe on this story hasn't hit the floor yet, but I hear it whooshing through the air. The next big question to answer: will Ashley Todd eventually be arrested for filing a false report?
I wouldn't be surprised, but you just never know.
What this young woman needs is help. She has a problem, and it's about to become unmanageable for her. I almost feel sorry for Ashley Todd. Almost.

what's happening to journalism when a partisan kid's story is not vetted???!!! Not even by the Associated Press or CNN?
Why isn't anyone contacting her mom? I'm a mom. If my daughter was actually attacked like the Todd girl is saying, I'd be at her side in a shot, I'd be hysterical and loud and organizing for vengeance. If my daughter was, on the other hand, going to perpetrate a fraud that would make it look as if she'd been brutalized, I assume she'd tell me so that I >wouldn't
Posted 10/24/2008 at 10:31:32 AMIs there any video of her talking about her attack? I haven't even heard about this. Thanks for sharing it!
Posted 10/24/2008 at 10:32:44 AMFrom the perspective of a Pittsburgh local, this looks like more race-baiting from the GOP:
Read About It.
Posted 10/24/2008 at 10:36:45 AMi lived close to the Bloomfield area earlier this year. it's SO unbelievable!! Bloomfield isn't the "bad" part of town! i have walked in that area many times after hours...i'm a girl (and pretty symmetrical, if i must say) and i have never been attacked. that area is a very nice neighborhood to live in. if she was in East Liberty or Homewood when this incident occurred...her story would have been almost believable.
i saw her twitter and it stated that she was on the "wrong side of Pittsburgh". did she mean that she got lost? or did she mean that she was in the bad part of town? where she was "attacked" is nothing in comparison to the part of town i lived in--not too far from Homewood or East Liberty (where almost every other week someone gets shot, burglarized, etc. it seems)...
this girl is full of it!
by the way, there are about 2 or 3 hospitals in that area... one of which is on the same street that she was attacked. no excuses!!
Posted 10/24/2008 at 11:10:33 AMJust thought I'd post one of her YouTubes - check it out around :30 in - her description of the "straight edge with the razor tip" made my ears perk up.

Posted 10/24/2008 at 11:31:04 AMI doubt they'll arrest her for making a false police report. If they haven't charged Crystal Mangum, what makes you think they'll charge her? They should...but that's beside the point.
And can we PLEASE stop with the political rhetoric?? This is about true (or UNtrue) crime.

Posted 10/24/2008 at 12:38:29 PMSupposedly Ashley is a Texas A&M student - and I have to say that in the past, students have been "asked" to leave the University for actions that could be deemed racist or deceptive that gained media attention.
If she's found to be lying, I wouldn't be surprised if A&M asks her to leave the school - they're trying to improve their reputation.
Posted 10/24/2008 at 12:55:44 PMIf you've ever been punched in the eye you know that a black eye doesn't appear immediately. It develops over a few days. If that picture was taken at the time she filed the police report then it was probably an old injury...
Posted 10/24/2008 at 01:27:45 PMThe current quote on her MySpace page is "Lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her cloths off, but its better if you do."

She updated it on 10/23/2008.
Posted 10/24/2008 at 01:30:30 PMJohn, thanks, but that's was covered already in one of the other posts I've done about this. Those posts are linked from the entry above. Her headline is partially the title of a song by Panic! At the Disco. Still -- why choose that particular song?
Posted 10/24/2008 at 01:33:21 PM"A Pittsburgh police commander says a volunteer for the McCain campaign who reported being robbed and attacked near a bank ATM in Bloomfield has confessed to making up the story. Police say charges will be filed. More details to follow."

Posted 10/24/2008 at 01:40:22 PMIf you are looking in a mirror when you draw a "B" on your cheek with a knife, it would be very easy to get it backwards. Just sayin...
Posted 10/24/2008 at 01:40:30 PMSHE (lying asshole) CONFESSED TO MAKING THE STORY UP...local media in Pittsburgh are reporting it now ....
http://kdka.com/local/attack.McCain.Bloomfield.2.847628.html
Posted 10/24/2008 at 01:54:07 PMTime for you to get out of my headlines and into a correctional facility. I hope that inverted 'B' stays with you for life and reminds everyone of what a moron you are.
Posted 10/24/2008 at 02:14:47 PMShe probably won't go anywhere except into hiding for awhile, and then she'll be snagged the all the syrupy talk shows. She'll go through "therapy" and then use her 15 minutes of infamy as a springboard to talk about herself. The psych community is going to rail about how she's a victim of whatever disorder she's found to have, she'll cry on cue about it, the hand-patters will say "oh you poor thing!" and the whole process will start all over again. Her actions are those of a coddled and immature brat who craves ANY kind of attention. How pathetic!
Posted 10/24/2008 at 02:41:03 PMIt's not enough to say she didn't have a good poker-face; her eyes gave her away. You can tell a lot from a person's eyes. There is no fear or shock in that chubby little face, and she was doomed to be exposed from the moment her lies drifted into the air.
Posted 10/24/2008 at 02:41:27 PMI am not surprised that this person is a Ron Paul partisan.
I suspect that she went to Pittsburgh to "help" McCain in the same way that other Ron Paul "rEVOLution"-aries did while attending the Paul's alternative "convention" in Minneapolis-St.Paul.
Perhaps she reasoned that vandalizing trash cans doesn't get the same publicity as vandalizing one's own face.
Posted 10/24/2008 at 03:11:22 PMI didn't believe her because of her photo - that "black eye" is a result of smeared mascara and /or eyeliner. Crazy woman!
Posted 10/24/2008 at 04:44:35 PMFor what it's worth, on her xanga blog, she wrote about being a cutter. Apparently it went on for a while until her mom found out, and then took her to a doctor. She's just a messed up kid.
Posted 10/24/2008 at 05:54:16 PMEh, Ashley probably has the hots for some tall, well-built black man and is horrified. So she has to project her fear of sexually desiring a black man onto any available black man and claim that he wants to "grope" her.
That probably accounts for 15% of white female anti-Obama voters. They see a tall, well-built black man (which Obama is to the nth degree, including a fantastic smile which contrasts with McCain's "little baked beans"), feel attraction, and their innate xenophobia, racist upbringing, and deep sexual shame over their natural desires kicks in and they go into a form of rejectionist hysteria.

Posted 10/25/2008 at 10:42:09 AMSomeone contacted Texas A&M and they said that she has NEVER been a student at their school.
