• Kayla Williams attended my school and was in my classes from 2 to 5. we did this class to make up our credits. she always like everyone else has said had a smile on her face she never looked sad or like upset. she was my best friend and i cant believe some guy would murder 3 beautiful children does he not have any remourse for what hes done. i hope he gets the death penelty i would like for someday for me to go pay my respects and dues to kayla and her family since i live not to far away from where shes burried, its hard to know that one of my best friends step dad did this to these 3 innocent children. how messed up is this world coming to. just wanted to say that im sorry for your loss. i lost my brother to a tradic car accident on feb 4th 09. then i had my best friend die oct 15. 08 its not very easy for me to handle right now. well i love you kayla williams and everything is going to be ok kristi. love ya. bailey noel gilmer

• Kayla Williams attended church in Crestview, Florida with my children. I've never seen her without a smile on her face or open arms ready to hug. She is loved and missed.

• How awfully sad. Why would anyone do this?? Then again it amazes me to read about man's inhumanity to man and animals almost every day in the news. It is time we rid this country of people like Dunlap...immediately upon proving their guilt, not send them on a free 'vacation" for life at the taxpayer's expense. They deserve to get what they gave to their poor victims. In the case of innocent children being butchered, it is even more imperative. My tears flow for them and their mother.

• Man arrested in slayings Sunday, October 19, 2008 ROARING SPRINGS, Ky. — Kevin Wayne Dunlap, 36, of Hopkinsville will be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in connection with the brutal slayings of three children and attempted murder of their mother. A Kentucky State Police Special Response Team arrested Dunlap about 8 a.m. Saturday at his home, 2503 Cox Mill Road, following an all-night surveillance operation that began about 9 p.m. They charged him about 1:30 p.m. with three counts of capital murder, four counts of kidnapping, three counts of tampering with evidence, and one count each of attempted murder, first-degree rape and first-degree burglary. The charges will be enhanced because police believe Dunlap had a gun when the crimes were committed. State police Detective Jerry Jones booked Dunlap into the Christian County Jail in Hopkinsville at 4:34 p.m. Dunlap is being held without bond. "We recovered some evidence that we believe links Mr. Dunlap to the crime," state police spokesman Dean Patterson said. "The evidence was located at his home." Patterson would not elaborate. Emergency responders discovered the bodies of Kayla Williams, 17, Kortney Frensley, 14, and Ethan Frensley, 5, following a fire at their house at 169 Military Road on Wednesday. Their mother, Kristy Frensley, 36, received serious injuries. Patterson would not comment on what role Kristy Frensley played in the investigation and arrest. "Due to the mom's condition it took some time before we could speak with her," he said. Police continued Saturday to sift through the charred rubble of the home using screens. A yellow water hose snaked across Military Road from a hydrant at the Roaring Springs Fire Department so police could rinse soot from anything they discovered. "It's probably one of the most horrendous crimes I've ever been involved with or known of in the area," Patterson said. Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson said Saturday that autopsies determined Williams had died of a laceration to the neck, and that Kortney and Ethan died of multiple stab wounds. State police would not say how Dunlap is connected to the Frensley family, but said he is connected with DirecTV and that the DirecTV corporate office has cooperated with police. Immediately following the bodies' discovery police had notified other law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for a bloody man in a DirecTV van. Patterson said police had searched Clark's home and personal vehicle. They do not believe a DirecTV van was used in commission of the crimes, he said. Neighbors said police seized a brown Chevrolet pickup truck at Dunlap's home. Next-door neighbor Beverly Riner, 69, said Dunlap works for DirecTV and had lived at the home since this summer with a woman and at least two children. Web sites identified the home's residents as Kevin and Stephanie Dunlap. Jail records showed that Kevin Dunlap is married, but not to whom, Christian County Jailer Brad Boyd said. Riner said of Dunlap: "He's just as mild and quiet. The children are just adorable, and they're such nice and well-behaved children." Riner said she did not know her neighbors well but had approached Dunlap when she became interested in having satellite service installed at her home. Lindsey Clark, a neighbor who witnessed the arrest, said two DirecTV vans were parked in front of Dunlap's home and that he was placed in handcuffs while wearing a DirecTV uniform. Clark and his wife, Lynn, were walking from their home to a Lions Club pancake breakfast about 8 a.m. Saturday. "We heard a loud boom, I mean a very loud boom," Clark said. "It sounded like a cannon." Police later told him the noise was a diversionary tactic, he said. A man who identified himself as being with state police stopped the couple. "He said: 'We're securing this area. You need to stay right there,'" Clark said. About 15 minutes later police brought first another man and then Dunlap out in handcuffs. State police Lt. Brent White said it is common for police to detain everyone when initially raiding a home to protect officers' safety, even if not everyone is eventually arrested. Following Dunlap's arrest, deputy jailers placed him alone in a cell. He was on suicide watch, Boyd said. Although Boyd said he does not know whether Dunlap has a criminal record, he has never been at the jail, he said. "With this type of crime, we'll have to keep a very close eye on him for his own protection," Boyd said. "It's already very unpopular with the inmate population." Boyd described Dunlap's demeanor as docile and cooperative. He was soft-spoken and answered questions with ma'am or sir, he said. Boyd said the best word to describe him was shocked. "Really, no emotion, just kind of blank," he said. Kortney's father, Roy McBurney of Michigan, said Dunlap's arrest elated him. "This is going to get some closure instead of letting this drag out," he said. "If this is the guy, I hope they just throw the book at him." Williams' friend, Kacey Rexing, 17, said, "It's very comforting, but at the same time it's still undescribable and still hard to think about." Williams' classmate Danielle Reddick, also 17, agreed. "It's still the same," she said. "It still happened. She's not here anymore. She was my best friend, and I miss her." Rosemary Hendricks, 45, of Cadiz has friends in common with Kristy Frensley. "It's by God's grace she's still alive," she said. The arrest made her feel safer, she said, "but still your whole world is rocked because your small community is not the way you believed it to be."
