I fear that there may be more variations on this theme to come. A jobless financial advisor described as "despondent" killed himself and his family this weekend in the upscale, gated Porter Ranch community in the San Fernando Valley, north of Los Angeles. No names yet, but the man killed his wife, age 39, and his three sons who range in age from 19 to 7. He also killed his 70-year-old mother-in-law. The gunman left some explanatory letters behind. A police spokesman said the man's letters "attested to some financial difficulties." [LAT]

Porter Ranch is not that far away from where I live. It's the north-west SFV, while I'm in the center bottom, near the 405.
Posted 10/06/2008 at 08:17:22 PMThe parents and one child are named:
"One of the young victims, Ganesha Rajaram, 12, was a 7th grade honors student "
"Friends and neighbors identified the couple as Karthik and Subasri Rajaram, who had lived in the neighborhood for a few years."
I think if you kill your family, your problems go a lot deeper than debt.
Posted 10/06/2008 at 08:21:34 PMThis is very sad. I saw this at the LA Times.
There was a Korean man last year? 2 yrs ago? who killed his family because he was unable to support them; one of the daughters survived. It was also at the LA Times.

As I read this story earlier, I was just amazed that this man couldn't sit down with his wife and discuss this and that they could work it out together. Most couples would do that. It would be horrible to be in such a sink hole but together they could get thru it. To me, your family and your love for them is what should give you the strength you need to get thru this situation. Not drive you in the opposite direction. Like you said, this man had deeper issues going on to be able to shoot his family and himself. Very sad.

Absolutely! But personally, after God, family is the most important thing in my life.
