2-year-old killed over spilled milk
Is something bizarre and deadly going on in Southern California? Are the homeless being targeted, somehow?
Earlier in October, we heard about the hideously cruel murder of a homeless man named John McGraham. He was attacked by unknown assailants who doused him with gasoline and set him on fire.
Tonight comes an even deadlier report: 5 people found shot to death in a homeless camp near a freeway ramp in Long Beach.
Police received an anonymous call directing them to the camp around 8:30 a.m. PT. They found 5 adults in an overgrown no-man's land.
Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said the dead were "two female adults and three male adults." Police believe they are definitely looking at a mass murder. [KNX1070.com, CBS2.com]

steve,I thought the same thing as you did when I heard about the five murdered yesterday.
Posted 11/03/2008 at 08:58:33 AMI know right where that homeless camp is and it really is no man's land or at least no where -anyone- would want to call home unless there was no alternative. That end of the 710 freeway is terribly dangerous and desolate. It's littered with couches, garbage and debris which is left in the middle of the lanes and heavily traveled by truckers as it ends at the Long Beach Harbor docks. This act is a horrific disgrace. I came into contact with many opinions where the homeless are concerned over the 25 years I was a social worker out here. Too many people believe they are lesser humans, lazy, a drain on our society and should just "get a job." Orange County has "sanitized" itself of the homeless so that we can't see them. LA County has no idea what to do with their every growing community. Hospitals have taken to dropping them off on the streets in one of their most dangerous neighborhoods, offering them no safe place to go to recover. These are some of the most broken among us and because they don't help the "big machine" move forward, they are put out like the trash. Are they targeted here? It would seem so lately but we have heard other horrific stories about their murders in other states as well. The people who do this need to feel powerful and because they feel so small themselves, they target a community that can't fight back. And those people live everywhere among us.
Posted 11/03/2008 at 11:23:36 AMI am shocked at the lack of comments so far. If these victims were all pretty coeds, I think there would be lots more interest. To pick on the weakest among us, these perps are the lowest of the low. And how upsetting is it that people heard the gunshots and voices, "let's get out of here!" and the car peeling rubber when it left and NOBODY called the cops!? A sad reflection on society today.
Posted 11/03/2008 at 02:34:40 PMTo often the homeless and those in the sex trade get treated like garbage, expendable. This is sad beyond words that those who are trying to live a life are treated so cruelly.
Posted 11/03/2008 at 03:21:02 PMIt's true, killers like to hunt populations like the homeless and the sex trade because of that common societal attitude: "no humans involved." You'd they'd realize at least that they're giving their killers a lab to improve techniques so that when they go hunting John and Suzy Creamcheese, they won't get caught.
This just breaks my heart. Anyone who knows anything about homelessness knows these people aren't there because they blew off real opportunities. Are the cops actually going to try to investigate now that a mass murder has shown up, or will they just flop around until the attention goes away?
While I lived in NYC I had too many homeless friends to take this lightly. Dammit, they're people, too.
Posted 11/03/2008 at 03:43:30 PMOkay, local news reports that one woman and her boyfriend who were killed in this massacre, were not homeless. Seems there may be gang ties and the other victims were witnesses that needed to be disposed of. More at this URL: http://cbs2.com/local/5.murdered.homeless.2.854657.html
Posted 11/03/2008 at 04:37:11 PMSince the shots were heard at night, and the first report called in the next morning, it makes me wonder if any of the victims might have been saved if someone had called this in right after hearing the gunshots.
Tamora, I could not understand what you were trying to say in your first paragraph, even with reading between the lines. But I totally agree with your last statement; this is a tragedy.

We Shared a garage were we stayed until a few weeks ago when we were asked to leave. I wasn't stable enough to take her roaming from spot to spot, so we went are Seperate ways. Posted 11/05/2008 at 04:00:59 AMdoes anyone know if this is connected to the missing homeless in baltimore last year?
Posted 11/06/2008 at 03:39:57 PMI have been paying attention to murders of homeless, prostitutes, indigenous, migrants, gays, any who are voiceless, vulnerable and marginalized. It is increasing and most pay no attention. If anyone who knew those killed could contact me, i would write about it. I am collecting information for a book i hope to publish about this underbelly of amerikkka. I have done several vigils for murdered homeless and Women In Black in Seattle vigil every time another homeless person is found dead. It is following the blueprint of Hitler. Obama does not mean the end of hate crimes. We must educate others and act. This is deplorable.
Posted 11/14/2008 at 12:00:06 AMSomeone in the area knows why those people were killed and it was not a mass murder. This all boils down to someone talking to much and they paid for it. The police needs to dig a little more into one of the males that were killed and they maybe can solve this. someone is trying to keep from doing time. My GOD bless and return those soul to him. What is keep in the dark shall come to the light
Posted 12/19/2008 at 10:17:27 PMI ONLY HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING KAT A FEW TIMES THROUGH MY HUSBAND. SHE WAS STAYING WITH SOME FRIENDS OF OURS HOUSE JUST BEFORE THIS HAPPENED.
