jeanettesmith.jpgYou know, the crime shows that incorporate Miami into their titles don't really get the true grit of that city and its storied history. For a taste of what really goes on down down there you have to read Natalie O' Neill's new piece for the Miami New Times: "A Stripper, a Mobster, and a Murder."

O'Neill tells the story of a beautiful stripper named Jeanette Smith who was found dead in the Everglades in March, 1999. Smith had been raped and strangled, her body disposed of in duct-taped wrapped package.

Eventually a Marine sniper named Ariel Hernandez was convicted of Jeanette's murder, but you know the story doesn't end there. Go check it out to find out more about Jeanette, the man convicted of her murder, and the mob in South Florida.
