Joseph Edward Duncan Receives Half-Dozen Life Sentences

• Ugh. I had to stare this monster in the face when I used to work at the jail in good ol' Coeur d'Alene, ID. He can never get all that he deserves, but hopefully he'll get something close to it in the next life.

• Duncan got a FEDERAL death sentence. He's been sentenced to life in Idaho (redundant) and California, as we all know, never executes anyone, regardless of the sentence. He will die, by the Feds, hopefully in less than ten years. Still far too long for me, however.

• Looks like only one person has been executed in Idaho since 1994. Before that it was 1977. It's a bit better than CA's track record but there's a good chance it's nothing more than another life sentence. He may be coming here to CA for another murder which could give him -another- death sentence which is again, for sure here, nothing more than a life sentence. We don't do much executing out here. So, in this case, there might not be much difference in the sentences other than one sentence, death, keeps him safer from his fellow inmates. Unbelievably wrong.

• The first story on the Groene case is how I found your blog several years ago, and i've been reading ever since. I am glad that Duncan has been sentenced to jail forever. I hope that Shasta can have a somewhat peaceful life.

• I hope his fellow inmates rip his body to pieces soon!!

• I think it is totally appropriate to cover these judgments society has given this monster. This is not about Duncan but about society's reaction to his vile crimes. He may think he is above the law, but this court has proven him wrong. It is a reminder to us all, we can't trust for one minute an individual that will abuse a child for their personal gratification, revenge, or protest. Duncan should have been stopped years ago, and if is means feeding him and taking cares of his needs until he dies, so be it. It is money well spent.

• I hope now you and all the other crime bloggers will stop writing about him.You are the ones who give him the fame he lives for.Enough is enough!!!! <strong>NOTE FROM STEVE: Well, my blog posts about this animal have only gotten shorter and shorter, because this is a subject I can't even bear for too long anymore, so that's not a worry with me -- that said, I'm being paid to do this now, so I am a little more obligated to cover certain things than I used to be, even Duncan. But I've gotten to where giving him more than a couple of paragraphs makes me queasy.</strong>

• Now your tax dollars can help pay for his medical treatments, housing and feeding for the rest of his natural life, while he attracts the kind of bottom-feeding, broken humans who are titillated by associating with a murderer. One of the few things that the Soviet-era USSR did correctly was their handling of these kinds of cases. Once it was proved beyond doubt that Andre Chikatilo had killed all those people, the sentence was simple and direct. He was taken to a spot in back of the prison and fatally shot, one round behind the ear. Some people do not deserve to live on the same planet as the rest of us. As I do not believe in an afterlife or any sort of 'vengeful ghost' in the sky who will punish or reward us after death, I am appalled to see Duncan get off with a life sentence. <strong>NOTE FROM STEVE: Again, read the article I linked above. Duncan has received the death penalty as well. This is all just further insurance that he'll never even come close to a parole board, let alone the outside. That said, I'm hoping for a shanking.</strong>

• The death sentence, and six life sentences are still too good for him. And he's still an unrepentant azzhole.

• YEAH! This is good news. The men in prison are gonna have some fun with him! If he was on death row, they couldn't have that kind of fun so, nicely done. May what he did be done un to him.

• This creature is beyond evil. No earthly sentence will ever punish him for the vile crimes he committed. May he burn in eternal Hell!
