AP video about the Covina attack committed by a madman in a Santa suit.
Covina, CA -- Six bodies have been found in the burned-out home where a man in a Santa costume opened fire during a party on Christmas Eve. The suspect in the massacre, 45-year-old Bruce Jeffrey Pardo, has committed suicide. He was found early Christmas day at his brother's residence in Sylmar, California.
The death toll from this mass murder could go up to 8, according to the Los Angeles Times.
According to the LA paper and other press outlets, Pardo was angry over a bitter divorce and the focus of his rage was a party being given at his in-laws' residence on Knollcrest Drive in Covina.
It looks as though Bruce Pardo's act was planned and executed with calculated cruelty.
He showed up wearing a Santa suit and bearing what appeared to be a present. An 8-year-old girl inside the residence, perhaps having a natural reaction to the sight of Santa bearing a gift, opened the front door. That was when Pardo opened fire, shooting the girl in the face. She was, fortunately, said to be among the survivors.
Pardo then entered the home, firing his handgun all the way. And inside the "present," police believe Pardo carried what the Times termed a "a home-made pressurized device" that the killer used "to spray some kind of flammable substance."
So the house eventually erupted in flames. In spite of emergency services flooding the cul-de-sac where the tragedy occurred, Pardo got away. He showed up again around 3:30 Christmas morning, some 25 miles away in Sylmar. Bruce Jeffrey Pardo was dead from a bullet to the head.
The book on Pardo so far has been that he was an outwardly nice guy, a devout Catholic who'd recently divorced. He may have also lost his job.
One reason the death toll from Pardo's attack is still unclear -- the intensity of the fire that destroyed the 2-story suburban home. Many of the remains were charred and may be difficult to identify. [SGVTribune.com, LAT]

What a fucking asshole.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 03:38:54 AMi guess this was something personal, because Bruce Pardo was just divorced and the divorce was not a friendly one. so probably this was a personal revenge.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 07:05:48 AMthis whole thing sounds to me like a CIA operation.. another false flag setup to promote gun control... i know it was..
Posted 12/26/2008 at 09:11:41 AMThis is so sad...it makes me angry as well. According to reports, he also had a homemade bomb in his car. What an asshole is right.
He sure "showed them."
Posted 12/26/2008 at 11:31:12 AMAs if this case couldn't get any stranger. A bomb squad was called out to remove a device from a rental car in front of his brother's house. The device blew up. Fortunately no one was hurt.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 11:52:47 AMYet another reason Xmas should be done away with. Why do we as a society only have one day to be loving, kind, sharing, giving and family based. If there wasn't so much importance put upon this one day, very likely, this would not have happened.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 02:27:12 PMI wonder if Bruce was on anti-depressants. Were the victims Ron Paul supporters or 9/11 Truthers? Was Bruce in the military? Or was Bruce just another C.I.A. patsy marked to take the fall? Was he positively identified by anyone at the party? A 'bitter' divorce would only be motive to kill the ex-wife, and maybe her new mate, not carry out a massacre killing children, too. Only God and O.J. know.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 02:34:31 PMThis is so terribly sad. This poor family. Such devastation and children who were shot....
What's wrong with these people? I belong to a Parent's of Murdered Children support group. There's a couple in there with us who's ex son-in-law shot their daughter and their two young grandbabies ages 6 and 4. Then he shot himself. A whole family wiped out.
I just don't get it and can't wrap my brain around it. Killing small defenseless children.
Wiping out families. I just don't get it.
I just can't imagine....
Posted 12/26/2008 at 03:22:01 PMSad, sad situation. While it is easy to sit in our easy chairs and judge it would be much more difficult to be in his head. While I do not defend his actions it is obvious that after 1 year of marriage to who knows what kind of girl...probably not that gracious he had to pay alimony??? Ten thousand dollars AFTER 1 YEAR??? Poor legal representation obviously and unfortunately some very uncontrolled anger that he acted out on. Pathetic situation that we are seeing daily across the USA. As we continue to remove God from our lives and our nation so shall continue this trend.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 04:00:51 PMjim sauna
are you mad?
The CIA makes plots to promote gun control?
Sure. . .
Posted 12/26/2008 at 04:46:00 PMWell, at least he was a nice guy. I am sure that will assuage the bereaved.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 05:18:09 PMNews says ten children were orphaned in this massacre. A police news conference indicates Pardo had $17K and a plane ticket to Canada on his person when he committed suicide, which may have occurred because he accidentally suffered third degree burns.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 05:23:37 PMI didn't know this happened until today on the news. It's just 6 blocks away from my house. I just thought as I was driving at nighttime up on Grand Ave that somebody accidentally burned down the house with candles or something. How tragic.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 06:56:22 PMI knew Bruce personally....we dated back in the mid 90's. Later a friend of mine rented a room from him. Bruce WAS a nice guy....kind of goofy...a big kid so to speak. Not a mean bone in his body. People took advantage of him all the time....because he made so much money back then.
I was so shocked to see this story last night on the news. I knew his family (I know his dad is deceased) and cannot imagine what they are going through....the same with the families of those involved in the slayings. This was a senseless tragedy....and a very selfish act.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 08:05:40 PMThis is taking the saying "Don't get mad...get even" to a new level.
Sounds like he had lost everything around him while she was partying down. Looks like he got the last laugh.
Posted 12/26/2008 at 11:09:11 PMI'm not defending him or his actions but I can't help but feel a little sorry for him. He quite obviously lost the plot and while absolutely no one deserved any of this, his ex sounds comes across as a bit of a cow...taking the dog? 10,000? I'm probably very wrong, but I can picture him as being a genuinely nice, giving guy who hit a long streak of very bad luck
R.I.P, such a waste of so many lives!!
Posted 12/26/2008 at 11:35:56 PMWho can stand anymore bad news especially around the holidays? This ruins the whole story of Santa being a jolly old Saint Nick. Now, we have to wonder who is really behind the santa suit. Perhaps some deranged low life who can't cope with life's problems so he goes on a killing spree. Then there are those that say he was a very nice person and always had a smile on his face, but it is too late after he goes off the deep in. I think any one who buys a santa suit should have to register their driver's license now, because who can you trust if you can't trust Santa. Lucky that he shot himself or someone else might have been the next victim. It is sad enough that Caylee's dead without more and more grief.
Posted 12/27/2008 at 12:44:08 AMBruce Prado might've been a nice guy enduring some very difficult circumstances but his way of handling his frustration is incomprehensable. He shouldve taken his own life if it was so unbareable and left a note blaming his wife. To do the unthinkable of killing her, innocent children and other people is unforgivable. Hell has a reason and it's to store ass-holes like him.
Posted 12/27/2008 at 02:03:49 AMLet’s see now. Bad Santa Bruce was married to the lady for a little while and probably made some personal sacrifices to help her raise three children fathered by another man during that time. Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t work out. Then things got really nasty. A divorce judge took his house from him, his dog, $10,000 of his money, a bunch of his future income, and gave it to the woman to whom he was briefly married. Bruce went crazy. I think the judge may be just as guilty as “Bad Santa”.
Posted 12/27/2008 at 08:30:05 AMBruce Jeffery Pardo was a guy who had anger issues. He just couldn't handle all that negative news. He caved to the pressure of anger. He should have been in counseling and I can't believe someone didn't see the warning signs???????
Posted 12/27/2008 at 10:52:32 AMFirst of all this is a tragic incident, lets not loose sight of that. Being at the time we are supposed to celebrate the birth of Christ makes this even more disturbing!
Now I have to respond to Jim Sauna's remark, it's so sad, typical, and to be honest pathetic, that in light of this massacre you jump on the whole "Gun Control" issue. I served in the Marines for 8 years, now I am a cop, and let me tell you this is simply a case of a man gone psycho! Right away you gun freaks jump on every opportunity to protect your amendment rights... what about the rights of those people this guy killed? The worst thing about working in Law Enforcement is we get to see the negative side of what guns do to people. I haven't been to one call where someone used a gun in self defense, it's always someone just shooting another person.
Posted 12/27/2008 at 11:04:13 AMI love it how when a man decides to kill his wife and children, it's somehow always the fault of that "mean bitch" who "drove him to it," because he was a "nice guy" at heart. Bullshit. Pardo was yet another entitled straight male who considered his wife and children his possessions to do as he pleased with.
Oh, and the fact that he was a "devout Catholic" doesn't make this crime somehow inexplicable. If he were anything but some flavor of xtian, I'm sure that would be considered a "cause" of his rampage. Atheist? "Gawdless and immoral!" Muslim? "OMG TERRIST!!" Pagan? "OMG SATANIST!!"
Posted 12/27/2008 at 08:00:18 PMYes, as usual it's the woman's fault her ex-husband felt muderously entitled and planned out this whole thing as well as an escape that didn't happen. Right. And for the guy complaining about the judge taking "his" home (which yes, I'm sure HE was the one who cleaned, maintained, and bought for) and "his" money (right, because women never sacrifice their carrers/potential careers for the guy)? Comparing the two is the most absurd thing ever. Yes, that justifies shooting a little girl in the face. He wasn't going "crazy" - he had it aaaall planned out, but got burned (literally). And yes, hanging out from your family is "partying down". I know when I go to my parents' house, I feel like I may as well be at The Ritz...
Oh, and he also claimed his step-son as a dependent on his taxes. You know, the one who nearly drown in the bathtub and got brain damage and then poor widdle Bad Santa was found sitting on his ass watching TV. You sound like an MRA/FRA type.
Posted 12/27/2008 at 08:24:12 PMI think this guy was on the yahoopersonals dating site. He contacted me about 3 months ago but I can't remember anymore than that, as I did not reply. I just remember his face. Was he located near Charlotte NC or Houston?
Posted 12/27/2008 at 08:36:19 PMThe disabled child wasn't his step-son. It was his child, from a former relationship, whom he hadn't cared for (financially or physically) since the accident happened.
The judge didn't "take his house from him." And while the judge did award alimony (I don't agree but it IS California), since he lost his job, he and the ex came to an agreement. She wouldn't receive spousal support, but a lump sum and the dog.
And I doubt his religion had anything to do with it.
Posted 12/27/2008 at 10:24:47 PMNone of you know the full story. You are making judgments on someone you know nothing about (his wife). Here's what we do know. Santa had his suit made in September months before this incident! He booby trapped two cars to kill as many police officers as he could as he could. He asked the seamstress to make it extra large (To hide things under?)He shot an eight year old little girl point blank in the face on christmas eve.He had a son who supposedly accidently drowned. He then never went near that child again kept his existance a secret from his wife but claimed him as a tax deduction.I see a cleverly deceitful individual here disguising himself as a nice guy. he certainly fooled a lot of people. He had no emotional conection to his son but you are all ready to belive he had a deep connection to the dog? It sounds to me that the wife discovered she was married to a sociopath and wanted out.In retrospect she was right!
Posted 12/28/2008 at 07:06:19 AMSeeing my husband going thru a horrible divorce with his first wife who was a vengeful drug addict twit, He went thru hell, I have no respect for those twits who try to get all they can (that goes for either sex). Well if she would have talked to him and been reasonable maybe this would not have happened, People will say OH I could never do that but when push comes to shove and you get so stressed out of it and distraught you will do things you thought you would never do. Remember things you say and do have consequences whether you like it or not, It is called Karma coming back to bite you in the ass, We are living in strange days and are on a sinking ship called earth.
Posted 12/28/2008 at 10:21:11 AMFor the record, "devout" Catholics do not marry divorced women, it is considered adultery by the Catholic church. "Devout" Catholics also don't abandon their disabled children. It appears to me he was a self centered control freak who had a screw or two lose. Obviously evil took hold of him because every "devout" Catholic knows >HELL IS FOREVER
Posted 12/28/2008 at 04:20:33 PMI'm amazed at how many people can try a backhanded way of justifying this guy shooting an 8-year-old in the face, He had a bad ex, it wasn't his fault he was a violent psychotic.
Posted 12/28/2008 at 05:35:33 PMI'm sorry, I wrote the wrong name and called myself soobs..I am shocked not soobs. Anyhow, my question is still important. I am still not sure I believe this guy was distraught. If this guy was so distressed and broken, then why was he hitting me up for a date on a dating site?
Posted 12/28/2008 at 09:24:16 PMPenny: "Well if she would have talked to him and been reasonable maybe this would not have happened..." Excuse me? No, it is not the wife's fault for being "unreasonable." Why the fuck is it always a woman's fault when men decide to go on violent sprees? I'm sorry, but my XX chromosomes do NOT put me in charge of controlling men. They're adults and they can damn well act like it.
And nobody cares about your mayyyyunnnn and his ex. I'm so sick of women who justify violence against other women. It could happen to you too, doll.
Posted 12/29/2008 at 12:47:06 PMYou just have to realize that some big fat bums like this guy are still just selfish, spoiled little brats at heart.
He got his ass kicked in a divorce, but didn't want to follow the law because he was a sore loser. And so, tell them us what they've won, Don Pardo! I mean... Bruce Pardo!
PSYCHO SANTA X-MAS PARTY SUPPLIES
1. Guns for shooting about 10 people, including kids.
2. Gasoline kit, wrapped like X-Mas present, to douse house.
3. Matches to set house on fire, if I miss anyone with guns.
4. INFLAMMABLE Santa Claus suit, so flames won't melt it to me and give me third degree burns so I'll have to kill myself too.
ERROR: Got Santa suit but forgot INFLAMMABLE part. Oops!
Posted 12/31/2008 at 08:00:27 AMHe agreed to that amount of money to be given to his wife. But from a religious standpoint marriage is until the day you die. Bruce was married before remarrying makes him an adulterer and his new wife a fornicator is she was never married or an adulteress if she has been marrried. Both are in HELL burning. Another thing people dont get divorced work it out no matter what.
Posted 01/13/2009 at 11:40:40 AMThen this stuff wont happen.
