Teen strangled, slit 9-year-old's throat

The U.S. Marshals report that Marc Schrenker has been found alive in Quincy, Florida. The fugitive money manager was found with his wrists slit at a campsite in Quincy. He may have attempted suicide -- but you know, I kinda doubt he totally meant it. Speaking to CNN, the Marshals could not say for sure whether they had Schrenker or not. Whoever they have in custody, he's been taken to a hospital in Tallahassee. [NWFDailyNews.com]

Yeah, I think that was *a* slit wrist. Like most people that find it easy to cheat and abuse others, he probably found it very difficult to take his own dear life.
Posted 01/14/2009 at 08:09:45 AMBut why on earth would someone clever enough to pull a financial conjob be so utterly inept at staging a disappearance?
Posted 01/14/2009 at 12:10:43 PMI have a theory on an answer for you, FoolsGold.
If his escape plan had actually worked, it really would have been very clever and not so inept at all...
It sounded like he had planned to pretend that the window on his plane imploded based on his mayday/distress call. It then sounded like he put the plane on autopilot with the assumption that it would continue to fly straight on its' course into the ocean, where it would then be considered a missing airplane with a presumably killed pilot.
Everyone would think that he had been killed in the crash due to his distress call, and that would have possibly been that.
As Bugs would say...whadda maroon.

Regulators in at least three states were warned about Marcus Schrenker, in one case as early as 2002.
But it took nearly seven years - and suspected losses reaching into the millions of dollars - before Indiana launched a criminal investigation of Schrenker, whose high-flying lifestyle included planes, luxury cars and a 10,000-square-foot home. Officials say he deliberately switched his licensing from state to state to create confusion about who should have been watching him.
