Man kills serial pedophile

A 48-year-old police sergeant who heads his department's Organized Crime Unit vanishes without a trace. Signs of a struggle are left behind. Sounds like the sort of story you might read in a New York paper, maybe hear in news reports out of Chicago, right?
Nope. We're talking about Sgt. Faron White, of Decatur, Alabama, a city of 56,000 located near the Tennessee/Alabama border.
Sgt. White disappeared last Friday from his office at the Decature Police Dept. There was evidence in the office that something happened, but no one has found any sign of the 5'6", 200 lb. police officer since.
White heads Decatur's Organized Crime Unit, which, according to The Huntsville Times, handles "illegal drug[s], gambling, prostitution, money laundering and similar crimes." Other crimes investigated by the Organized Crime cops in Decatur include illegal sales of alcohol and contract murders.
As you might expect, local law enforcement is all over this case. If you think you know something about the disappearance of Sgt. Faron White, you can call (256) 341-4717. [Blog.al.com]
UPDATE
As noted in the comments on this post, Faron White has been arrested in Las Vegas. It looks as though the disappearing act was meant to conceal the theft of $2500 from White's unit at the Decatur PD. A 29-year-old woman named Sarah Richardson was also arrested at her home in Decatur. She allegedly helped White flee the state. [AP]

Dang, if you're a police officer and not safe at the office the rest of us are certainly sitting ducks. Has to be someone close to him.
Posted 01/05/2009 at 02:46:09 PMI live in the town right next to Decatur and have many friends that live there. It is so crazy! Decatur is a TINY town without much crime. I hope they figure this out!
Posted 01/05/2009 at 02:56:34 PMWas he the victim of a crime, or is he the perp? It could be awfully hard to stay on the right side of the law when you are living on a cop's pay and watching all the money-laundering, drug-dealing scumbage living the high life and bailing out of jail as fast as you can put them in. (I meant to write "drug-dealing scumBAGS", but I think I like "scumbage" better.)
I don't know the missing sergeant. He may truly be a victim, but if he didn't dissappear on purpose, I'm afraid the chances of finding him alive and well are slim.
I am not happy to point out the possible pitfalls of being a cop. I am on their side, I'm married to one. I hope this man comes home safe, it just doesn't look good.
Posted 01/05/2009 at 03:16:15 PMThe Sgt worked narcotics, and should have never been allowed to work alone, thats the first rule...
Posted 01/05/2009 at 06:21:28 PMUnless I missed it, I see no mention of a cell phone, is it missing? If so, when was the last activity and where was the last pings? Also, I see no mention that his vehicle was found or not at the last place he was seen.
Posted 01/05/2009 at 09:23:03 PMHe was arrested late last night in Vegas! He had taken about $2500. from his dept. and didn't want to be caught.

Posted 01/06/2009 at 10:21:27 AMHe is found, alive and well in Vegas! BEing extradited back now..........
Posted 01/06/2009 at 10:40:56 AMUpdate: He was found in Vegas. He stole the money and staged it to look like foul play.

Stole money and skipped town to Vegas. What a guy.
Posted 01/06/2009 at 11:15:00 AMWhy on earth would he throw away his whole career and change his life so drastically for the worse for a lousy 2500 bucks? There's got to be more to this scenario that's not being disclosed.
Posted 01/06/2009 at 01:14:01 PMI had the same thought, D.P. All that for $2500????
Posted 01/06/2009 at 06:16:08 PMDitto, D.P. and Soobs. $2500 would not have stretched too far in Vegas--or anywhere else, for that matter.
Posted 01/07/2009 at 01:02:54 AMI'll bet he's taken more than that. 2500 is probably just the amount he took to Vegas, probably thinking that if he was able to win enough to put back whatever else he stole, he'd show up somewhere with "amnesia" about the "attack" in the office. If he wasn't planning on returning to Alabama, he probably would have taken a lot more money or drugs with him. Surely, he had to be under the influence of some kind of mind-altering substance to think he'd get away with it!
Note to Steve- I miss your musings on the cases you write about. All facts without the Huff is like nachos without the peppers, Dairy Queen with no jukebox, O'Riley without the O'pinion! (This is a good-natured compliment, not a criticizm!)
Posted 01/07/2009 at 12:44:44 PMWhat in the Hell is up with this guy either he's the DUMDEST criminal ever in the entir world or there is more to this than him stealing 2,500 big ones and running off to Vegas--and if there isn't more to this story then this guy and the girl are both DUMBASSES!!!!
Posted 01/08/2009 at 11:35:57 AMLooks like that $2,500 was just the tip of the iceberg:
Sarah Richardson, 29, who is charged with helping White disappear, has told police she thinks White has stolen $70,000 from the department. (http://blog.al.com/breaking/2009/01/decatur_cop_waives_extradition.html)
Posted 01/09/2009 at 01:08:26 AMThere ya go. That makes a little more sense.
Posted 01/09/2009 at 05:26:29 PMThis dude is a moron!! A pitiful excuse for a cop! Do the actual really honest cops have to wonder why no one has any respect for them and people curse and spit upon them?
Posted 01/10/2009 at 04:38:11 PMMr White was the BIG DOG when a search warrant was served at my home, does anyone think what he has done will have any affect as to my arrest outcome?
