Man kills serial pedophile

On December 30, Christine Pelisek reported the bad news -- DNA testing won't find LA's prolific and long-lasting serial killer, the "Grim Sleeper." Pelisek wrote:We reported that the police were stymied by the fact that the Grim Sleeper's DNA profile didn't match any sample in the state-offender or federal crime databases. They were hoping a long-shot effort to identify the man through DNA "familial" testing would identify the killer's family, and eventually lead police to the killer. The attempt to search the crime databases for the killer's brother or father, whose DNA would appear similar to that of the anonymous Grim Sleeper's, was the first known major use of the "familial DNA" method in investigating a crime. However, the long-awaited DNA test was a huge disappointment, failing to turn up any clues to the Grim Sleeper's identity. The killer is still out there, somewhere in Los Angeles, and police are pursuing numerous avenues in hopes of catching him before he kills again. She also pointed out that there's a Wikipedia article up about the killer now. Check it out. [LAWeekly.com]

I'd sure look closest at that third victim: male, headshot, middle of street rather than rubbish-strewn alley.
Family members are not always in the database and the searching is most relevant when there are unusually rare protein combinations involved.

Posted 01/04/2009 at 03:15:16 PMThe thing I find interesting about this case is the LAPD Chief of police and the mayor kept this information from the public for many years. Reminds me of The Original Night Stalker case Sacramento. He raped 13 women before the police advised the public they had a serial rapist working the east side of Sacramento. How can the public protect themselves and report tips to police if they have NO ideal a serial killer is on the loose.
Posted 01/06/2009 at 11:53:53 AMThe Grim Sleeper is a typical serial killer very simuliar to Gary Ridgeway (Green River Serial Killer)& The Suffolk Strangler England. Let me add he's not the only serial killer working the greater LA area. The psychological/criminal profile of this killer will be very simuliar to Gary Ridgeway & The Suffolk Starngler imo. Kansas City had a afro american serial killer a few years ago who was murdering black prostitutes and dumping their bodies in vacant lots under trash. He would call the police and advise them where to find bodies. He listened to the news and kept up with the investigation just like Bundy, BTK, Original Night Stalker and many more serial killers. I think he had served time in prison for murdering his wife who he had caught being a prostitute. The Grim Sleeper stopped killing for many years. Was he in prison for 10 years or did he just stop murdering to raise a family ??????
What if this "Grim Reaper" is a Police Officer? That is why his Prints and DNA are not in the database...
Posted 03/07/2009 at 01:21:24 PMI think the GS has a criminal record, but the Cops did not get his DNA in the System and thus no link to him yet. Remember that John F. Thomas who was recently caught was in the databae for registered sex offenders the entire time, but was 72 years old when they finally made a match to him. There are lots of missing DNA profiles ...errors for different reasons and GS may also be part of this problem. Cops recently admited to 100's of rape kits for LA never being tested...so much has just fallen through the cracks. You know if this same story happened in hollywood they would have caught the killer back in 1988, but a dozen black prostitutes are just low priority until a news story breaks the case open and foces the cops to make it a priority. Their computer systems are horribly out of date. The pictures on file for sex offenders are pathetic at best and need to be upgraded with new equipment and updated database efforts! So many mistakes were made in this case...lets hope they learn from this and catch this guy now. I hope this case can prove that opening up details to the public (like the sketch artist drawing made from the surviving victim) will solve cases Much faster.
