• teven was the runnin back in 8th grae and i was tight end he was so funny and so good that kid could lay someone flat i really think his dad had a big part in this act he was a totall mean selfish person but teven love and missed him alot and hated where he stayed with his mom

• Fools Gold, Scared Straight is LOW KEY?? Apparently you have never seen it. FYI, Scared Straight is now available free on youtube. I believe it is in 9 parts. These guys make boot camp look like a picnic. These kids were sent to the program because they were already involved in criminal activity, it was an experiment in intervention. I have taught in an inner city junior high school so I am familiar with what draws these young kids to criminal activity. We had female gang members at our school. We had kids with parents who were gang members. One thing that may surprise people is that there were also girls involved in the Scared Straight experiment. It was real life, not drama. Sure times have changed, but people haven't and the reasons for these kids turning bad haven't changed that much either. One thing that I didn't remember but read online in imbd, the documentary won an Emmy and an Oscar. I'm for giving the program another shot.

• How many of the 20 would have been criminals if they had NOT done the Scared Straight. I'll admit the fairly low-key approach of scared straight is better than the Scream in your face Boot Camp approach, but most crimes for young males are crimes of impulse, group activity and alcohol consumption with little time for reflection upon the consequences.

• Here's another one that ought to be required viewing for every teen----Scared Straight. It's old, retro, from the 70's. It was produced for PBS. They took about 20 teens who were juvenile delinquents and "introduced" them to the prison system, complete with introductions to real prisoners. It's about an 8 part series. It's hard to watch. But watch it anyway. The prisoners describe in detail what happens to them when they go to prison. They'd never get away with producing something like this today or trying this social experiment because they'd have too many loser parents trying to sue someone for hurting their little darling delinquent's self esteem. The social workers and law enforcement officials followed these kids for some 20 years after their petty crimes and Scared Straight experiment. Want to know how many ever committed a crime again??? TWO! Only TWO out of TWENTY. That's a damned good rate of success.

• I understand that women make up the fastest growing criminal group. Women. It used to be that women, at least, would see how bad things were spiraling out of control and put their foot down. Apparently, we've decided that if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. If it is true that the sperm-donor (no offense to real sperm donors) had virtually nothing to do with his son's raising, then what does it say about his mother? This is why girls, women, all of us: don't date douchebags. Because they'll plant their parasitic spawn in you, you'll be stuck with it, you'll do what you're supposed to - which is to love the child and sacrifice your comfort to raise them properly(hopefully) - while watching the slime bag go off and spawn, allegedly, 13 more at risk, ticking time bombs. (If this freak loves meat packing so much, why does he harvest strawberry fields this many times, at least?) If you're that special single mom who can handle an out of control teen boy all by yourself and keep him out of trouble, first, you'll be the exception, not the rule, and second, don't flatter yourself. Do you really think you can do something millions of women before you can't do? Oh? What super powers do you possess? Please, for the love of the only country worth anything on the planet, to all the criminals - most of which are still men - and the people who love them: stop ruining it for everyone. If you think this country has slipped as low as it can, just wait.

• You all don't read the whole story or what? It is not because Michael raised Teven he has only been with his Dad since November when the piece of shit contacted him on my space! It is because this kid wanted the attention of a father and like any 16 year old would think if he met up with his dad he might get the attention he has been thriving for and obviously not getting at home from his mother and her boyfriend. This is how this sick piece of shit works. Michael has around 13 children and I know the ones that have no contact with him (Are nothing like him) Thank GOD!!! I just hope authorities find them soon and for once when they get there hands on Michael maybe they will make something stick this time and not let him out on the streets again. • FoolsGold, The question is, do YOU think he is raising a fine upstanding young man??? I am speaking of ANY parent, ANY where, ANY time. You cannot be a friend to your children. You are their parent and are supposed to be their role model. I speak from the standpoint of a professional educator who works in the public schools and has for 35 years. I can look at a child's behavior and tell what type of home he/she comes from. It is not rocket science. And for what it's worth, I have had my students tell me they go to dog and cockfights and I have told them point blank it is wrong, it is illegal and it is immoral. I don't care what they go home and tell mom or dad that I have said. Nine times out of ten the kids that are the worst behaved in schools have parents who have allowed them to control their own homes. They refuse to take responsibility for discipline, mainly because they are undisciplined themselves. They are afraid of their own kids. My kudos to those parents out there who work hard every day to provide safe and loving homes for their kids. It will come back to you tenfold.

• NativeTexan: Do your comments apply to the Ladies Auxiliary of the KKK that would proudly parade their children at a lynching? This was common in Indiana when that organization was the most powerful political group in the MidWest. Do you object to children being present at dog or fowl fights? Thats quite common today. I'm sure even the man featured in the news item thinks he is a good father and is raising a fine, upstanding young man.

• Like I have said before many times................you have to have a license to drive a car, hunt, fish, you have to pass a test to take a college class, become a lawyer, a cpa, but THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY NO REQUIREMENTS OR SCREENING MECHANISMS FOR BEING A PARENT!!! ANY MORON ON THE PLANET CAN BECOME A PARENT----NO QUESTIONS ASKED. YOU CAN EVEN NOW HAVE EIGHT OF THEM AT ONE TIME WHILE COLLECTING A GOVERNMENT DOLE, GETTING FREE PLASTIC SURGERY, GOVERNMENT LOANS FOR SCHOOL AND GET YOUR OWN REALITY SHOW. Why care about your children's future? Why use judgement, values, or consider what kind of life you are sentencing these children to? After all, they just raise themselves right??

• I've been noticing, for at least the past ten years or so, that more and more criminals are being allowed to stay out of prison long enough to actually "parent," like only a criminal can: to raise more criminals. How many of us have to suffer, and how many have to snap, before we snap to our senses? [Due to page refresh weirdness, this may show up as a double comment; if so, my apologies.]

• This is a local story for me, and I've been following it closely. I pretty much agree with SW in the thought that this young kid really didn't stand a chance with this total fuck up as his dad and more importantly, mentor. That being said...it is up to the courts now to figure out what to do with him, when/if they catch them. I hope they catch these two very soon before they seriously hurt or murder someone. From what I read about the first attack, these two are very dangerous and will kill. KPR, I hear you. It used to be, we'd carry protection into the woods in case we ran into a bear or large cat. Now, it's for protection from a far more deadly predator.

• I am a close personal friend of Teven. He would never have done anything like this on his own. His father is also wanted for failing to register as a sex offender. Teven's mother had full custody, and Teven was not supposed to be seeing or talking to his father. When his father came in contact with Teven, he was excited to see him. Teven is not a bad kid. He made some bad choices. His father is the bad influence. His father is the scum that deserves to be shot by the cops. Teven just needs to be saved. I fear the damage that could be done to that poor young man by such a cruel and unloving father.

• I understand many Americans, especially those who reside in a large city, are afraid of guns. I believe this stems from, in part, the fact that the only time the come in contact with a lethal weapon, it is while watching the local news and observing a story covering a gun crime committed by a POS. I live in the same general area where this crime took place. Often I and my young boys take our Labrador swimming a mile from home, in a river that feeds off snow melt. There are days we literally do not see a soul from the time we park and walk down to the river and drive back home. Until very recently, I have not made this trip while armed. I feel silly now. This is far from the first crime of its type. In fact each year there is at least one case similar in nature and outcome to the one profiled above. Never again will I venture out into nature without any means by which to protect my young boys or myself. I would much rather go down fighting than be at the mercy of an individual that despises the word.
