Robert Chad Barela: A Little Guy With Some Big Problems

I know him and it is a little ridiculous for this site to make assumptions. If you took everyone's myspace information to be fact the world would have a lot more 'thugs' and 'gangsters' than you would hope for. If you are going to 'report crimes' as your website suggests, I think it would be more appropriate to do so in an unbiased manner. Report crimes, don't pass judgement.

My purpose of posting a comment was to express the bad taste left in my mouth after reading the bias in the 'news' report on this site. Looks like its possible there was a party, something happened, maybe an argument, and the suspect shot his friends.

I've known Chad for years. He is my brother and sisters friend and has stayed with us many times. Over the past couple years I guess he has just lost himself. These kids whos lives he took were his friends, believe it or not. The kid has made soem really bad choices. His life has turned down a road that I never would have guessed he would have chosen. I always thought of him as troubled, but a good kid deep down. He was never wanted from the git go. His mom didn't want him. He was carted off to grandparents to raise him and his brother. He was sexually abused, and has never had an easy time. I guess I can see how he got to this point. I am saddened for all of the families involved. When I think of Chad, I def do not think of him as a thug, although I know with his past few years involvement with drugs he has changed dramitcally. I always tried to be a positive influence on him and my siblings. But people do make their own choices. I am hoping this will be an awakening to my lil brother and sister to the kinds of people they surround themselves with as they were friends to all party's involved. My heart and prayers go out to the families.

This is a blog that covers news. Even though I have broken news here, have exclusives on some stories, etc., this is not a news site, per se. There is a difference. What is the "assumption?" That he's a person of interest in a triple murder? That he was arrested in the triple murder case? That he likes guns? Seems all three "assumptions" have been "proven."

I think one of the victims name is Doug Peck.

I'm also confused about what "assumptions" were made here. The guy puts a picture of himself, blinged out, gun in hand, red bandana on, says not to get on his bad side, he loves guns and hates cops and yet we're all crazy for thinking me might just fancy himself a bit of a thug?

I'm reminded of two things. One, a nephew of mine who was all gothed out, piercings everywhere, heavy eyeliner and a mohawk about two feet tall who used to complain about people staring at him.

Second, my own son who, for a few weeks, wore a chain around his neck that said "OUTLAW". When I laughed at him and he asked why, I told him what I thought was obvious. Real outlaws don't need to announce it to people via their jewelry. But, if you think it's a good idea to do so, don't be surprised if people get the *wrong* idea.

Same with myspace or anything else. Don't advertise a bill of goods if you don't want people calling you on it. He could just as easily posted a picture of himself surrounded by puppies and kittens, couldn't he?

It amazes me when "friends" of the accused go online and demand that everyone else stay out of it. You've got to be kidding me?! The guy had personal information about himself on public websites. He tried his best to come across as a tough-guy, thug, gangster-wannabe. He may have then killed 3 people and there was a manhunt for him that I read about on several mainstream media websites before I ever saw it here. If he wanted people out of his personal life he would have done none of the above. We have every right to pass judgement on this tough-guy, thug, gangster-wannabe. Afterall, he put himself out there for that.

I can see boilys point, that he DID indeed put himself out there. I guess that my earlier point was that I was trying to just show some insight to what led up to his insane behavior. He REALLY DID used to be a good kid. He just didn't have much of a chance from the git go. He's had a tough life and is not someone that was strong enough to turn it into something good. Now don't get me wrong, I am not defending his actions by no means! Those people he shot didn't deserve it..At least 2 of them were just unlucky and I believe that Albert was actually his cousin. He is just fucked up. I wish my brother would have pressed charges when the kid shot him by "accident" months ago. Then maybe he would have been locked up and this never would have happened. Please pray for these families.

I went to school with Chad and his brother. Was good friends with both of them. Hung out with them after school a few times also. I would of never thought that Chad would be capable of this. He was a nice guy, he got in as much trouble as myself at Oak Grove.

I hope the victims names will be brought public soon.. it has me worried quite a lot..

Could someone please tell me FOR SURE if Mason Peck was one of the victims? It was his house that this took place, and he has been a friend of my husband's since they were kids. All this back and forth that we have been dealing with all day "Yes, Mason is dead" "No he isnt dead" is driving us crazy. My husband has been trying to call him all day with no luck.

One of the media articles quoted a father of one of the victims (the relative) as saying that Chad had pointed a gun at him in December before turning and shooting someone else in the knee. Would that have been your brother, or has there been multiple incidents?

Also, I hope that this will be the wake up call that you prayed for with your siblings. I can tell that you are concerned for their welfare and care very much about them.

Its a shame that the little peaceful town I grew up in has turned to this kind of violence. I think that this Barella kid is just another meth-head that has let his whole life pass him by before he had a chance to live it! I hope they put him do death to teach everyone a lesson who knows him. Live right or don't live at all!! Stay off the drugs people!! There is a lot more to life!

I only knew the victims from where I work. They used to come in often, Liz maybe once every other day. I saw Chad several times, and I can tell you firsthand that he "fancies himself a bit of a thug." He walked around with his pants around his knees, hats sideways with a bandanna under it, lots of gang related tattoos...but here in Cushing? Pff. Yeah, right. Hopefully this will show some of those dumb kids around here that it's NOT cool to pretend that you're from some slum in Houston, or the worst parts of New York City. Wise up! This was a major trajedy for such a small, close knit town. Everyone knows everyone, and in some small way I'm sure the whole town was marked for life by these cold murders. I know I was. I'll miss seeing Liz and Albert's faces in the store. Liz never had an unkind word for me, and she didn't even know me. The world lost a wonderful person that day.

I have knonwn Chad and his family forever. He has had one of the worst lifes I have heard for starting from when he was a baby and knowone wanted him. I loved Liz she was beautiful and amazing and she was one of me AND Chads really close friends. I met chad forever ago and he has been like a brother since. To bvikk, yes he did shoot my brother through the legs a couple months ago. He said it was an accident. They were being stupid. One bullet, both legs. I think my brother kinda stopped hanging out with him for the most part after that. I cry everytime I see a story or posting on this ordeal. I wish it didn't happen but it did. Chad wasn't always like this and all of these kids were loved, him included. I went to school with Mason and was touched by each life involved. They all have their own story and will be missed. I wish there was some hope or some help for the drug issue in Cushing. It breaks my heart to know my son is being raised around so much darkness. We try to raise him in church and shelter him from these kinds of things but Chad, for example, has been in my home many times- not as this dark person he has become, but as a family friend and someone that used to run around with my siblings. We have got to get a handle on this drug problem within our community. It is destroying us.

You have morons from every city and state, so get over yourself. I think you will find people from this area typically come together very well and take care of each other. Take the OKC bombing relief for example, or what about when we took in refugees from Hurricane Katrina and how we sent people to New Orleans to help out with THAT??! Chad confessed to what he did, whether you think it was horrific or not, he is being punished and has nothing to do but accept that.
Personally, I think anyone who wishes him to rot in prison or wishes any such violence against him is no better than he is or what he did. How anyone can take up for Chad is beyond me. I graduated from Cushing and quickly moved away. Like 45% or more of the people in Cushing and the areas around it, I also had a substand abuse problem. I knew that staying there would only cause it to grow worse. So I made a choice. Chad had a choice too. I had a shitty life. I had problems. I could go toe to toe with Chad on bullshit (and yes I know all about his sexual abuse and how nothing was done). The difference between people like myself and idiots like Chad is, I MADE A CHOICE TO DO SOMETHING RIGHT. He had a choice. He choose to kill 3 people over what? I am close friends with a girl who was real close to Chad and she supports him and forgives him. Good for her. I didn't know the vicitms, but coming from a small town like Cushing I knew several people who did and this was a senseless act of violence brought on by drug use and CPDs inability to pick a 20 year old, wannabe thug, drug user/dealer/manufacturer off the street without an informant. Has anyone been FACTUALLY updated on any news about all this? I have missed the news and haven't been able to find anything online. I'd like to know what's going on legally and situationally!
Does anyone have any more information passed the fact that he killed one then the other two because they were witnesses? Any news on why or what happened, etc? I'm very curious and have been following this. I know Chad and want to keep up with this as much as I can.

I knew Chad and his brother when they lived with their grandmother and step-grandfather. Chad's life was NOT so bad as some may think. Chad's grandparents treated him and his brother well. We used to visit their home often and they were well taken care of and loved. Why Chad choose to do what he did, I have no clue, but let's not be decieved by those saying "nobody wanted him" or "he had such a rough life". Chad was treated well and was loved. He choose his own path and made the choice to do what he did, but let's be clear...it was not because he was not wanted or unloved, at least not during the time he was with his grand-parents.

I have known chad for 2 years he is not like what yall want to betray him as,He has been threw alot since he lost his closest friend my fiance it hit him really hard and i wish people would understand not every one is perfect.
