• Man, after reading about the trail and John's confession video I am rethinking my opinions. The father though I still see as a man devastated by all of this. It's all very sad.

• Here Kitty, kitty- tough gay sex is what he will be getting in prison, so much so that his liver will be scratching the floors every time he walks.

• Correct, all facts must be analyzed as I am sure they will be by the jury in this case. What we think matters little until justice has run its course. While I agree that Weber should have shown better judgement, we also must remember that John willingly responded to the solicitation for sex. He was not in a financial situation in which he needed money for food or shelter - he wanted to make a buck and have an adventure. I tend to sympathize for the kid and believe he was working through some teenage angst and bravado and ended up acting out on Weber. They were both a couple of freight trains on a head on collission course. A very sad matter for all. And may God bless John's suffering parents.

• Before passing judgment on John Katehis for taking a life, one should first look at the facts.... not some of the facts, but ALL of the facts. It has taken me over a month, but after reading the courtroom transcripts (which are accessable to the general public by right of law), I have come to the conclusion that mere bad publicity has made John look like a monster, which CLEARLY HE IS NOT. The media and journalists, looking for a shocking headline, used words like "sadomasochistic", "devil-worship" and "slaying" to describe what is in reality, a sixteen-year-old boy. John was noted for saying, "If you disrespect me then I will f—–g break your neck". Big deal. Every teenage boy in the world has made a comment like this from time to time. There is a major problem within our justice system when a child is blamed for the death of a pedophile. The world is pointing their collective fingers at John for taking a life, but nobody seems to notice the fact that John was simply a child who was lured by a grown man, made to share in illegal substances with this adult, offered money for rough sex by this adult. If the outcome was different, and George Weber lived, the fingers would be pointed at George for contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, and John would have been the hero for weeding out a pedophile. Mayor Bloomberg disgracefully stated that George Weber will be missed. Missed by who? The teenagers he was likely to molest in the future? As most of us already know, the justice system is a slow and antiquated piece of machinery. Although many of you don't want to admit it, you know deep inside that John did the world a favor. Give this kid some credit. He made the world a little safer for your children. Only in America can a child be blamed for the perversions of an adult. GOD BLESS YOU JOHN!

Schwartz said explicitly that he was countering that message. During the hearing, Schwartz said Weber had a "long history of trying to prey on young children" and that "smotherboy" was a screen name Weber used when he "attempted to lure other underage boys to his lair." Schwartz also came out aggressively against the Brooklyn district attorney. The May 8 hearing was intended to release the indictment against Katehis and its supporting documents, but Schwartz presented the court with motions seeking evidence from the district attorney that would vindicate his client. "We're very specific in our requests," he told Judge Neil J. Firetog. When talking to the press later, Schwartz said he was seeking copies of the hard drives of Weber's and Katehis' computers. Typically, such motions come much later in the legal process. Schwartz also moved to set bail for Katehis, who has been held on Rikers Island since his March 24 arrest. When Firetog said he would read the indictment, grand jury minutes, and supporting documents, and rule on that motion on July 17, Schwartz said he would appeal that decision, then pressed for argument so he would have a record on which to base an appeal. "Based on what you're saying, judge, this child will have to stay in jail for another two months," Schwartz said. Firetog cut off Anna-Sigga Nicolazzi, the prosecutor in the case, when she said she wanted to respond to Schwartz. Nicolazzi declined to comment following the hearing.

• Kitty, I agree there -- It is common for young people to explore their sexuality -- I was pointing out to this girl that no one really knows what was in his head.. I do not think that he is necessarily gay as much as he wanted to make money -- Maybe he is bi -- Then again, maybe he is just confused and the one thing he did know is that he wanted to make some quick bucks.. Sorry you didn't get to see him.. Have you thought of writing to him? If you do, just be careful what you say as they will read everything.. • Sadly Enough i Didn't Get To See Him, Because The Jail System Was EXTREMELY Confusing, and a LONG LONG Process. So, i had to leave. Anyway. John might have just been trying to explore his sexuality. I mean, he did tell me he liked girls with short hair. (Short hair is usually masculine). I think it's common for a 16 yr old boy to go out and try to fullfill that confusion. I mean, prostituing himself wasn't the right way to go. BUT, i think it was just easier for John due to the fact that Weber didnt know him personally. Like friends, etc.

• Emily -- Although he may have had the incorrect pentagram, as you stated, he did have the word Devil in Spanish as well as 666 -- Now, that being said, I do not think he was a satanist as much as he just wanted people to think he was.. He obviously thought it was cool -- From his father's myspace, it appears that HE (the father) is an Atheist.. Which would insinuate that he doesn't believe in either. An Atheist who has a son claiming to be a Satanist is a little odd to me but so be it.. I do not think John planned to kill Weber -- Who knows why he did it.. He was very sloppy: 1) being spotted in front of Weber's brownstone, pacing, would make one assume he didn't intend to be seen and then go in and murder the guy 2) he left his own blood all over the place 3) he left his CLOTHES there and left in Weber's clothes 4) being spotted, bleeding, on the train.. All of that points to a spur-of-the-moment murder.. My opinion is that he decided, after performing whatever sex act he was being paid for, to ROB Weber and it went awry.. I think he began to stab him and, once he started, he knew he better kill this guy because he could be identified. For this Princess person to come out of the woodwork with his/her ALL CAPS typing, claiming she knows this guy and he is not gay and blah blah blah is 1) a little too late seeing as how this has been covered already and 2) kind of pointless since this kid WAS trolling craigslist's MAN FOR MAN section, looking to make a few bucks by PERFORMING GAY ACTS -- Who cares if he was gay at this point?? Does it really matter?? Had he not committed MURDER, this would have probably ever come out.. But he did and that's what's newsworthy.. In my own experience, as a female, when I was a teenager I know for a FACT that if some woman offered me a measly 60 bucks, I would have NEVER performed sex acts with her.. The thought of that would have repulsed me.. Obviously John was not only into it, he went LOOKING for it online.. Also, SIXTY BUCKS is NOTHING to a 16 year old -- Why I am sure his tattoo cost twice that -- So, although I do not care if he is gay or straight, I can speak as a straight person and say that I would have never had sex with a woman at the age of 16, and ESPECIALLY for a measly $60!

• To Princess: If the reports were true the news reporter didn't know he was sixteen and believed he was eighteen. Laws differ in states on when someone is legal. Why was he on Craig's list prostituting himself out? Why do you think it's wrong to be gay? Whether he was or wasn't it's not something that's wrong or to be ashamed about. I wouldn't be surprised if he was bi or just didn't care about labels with sexuality and just wanted it for the adrenaline since he apparently was a junky for that.

• Very interesting. The Pentagram is the wrong symbol for a Satanist to wear. Pentagram's are mostly for Earth bound religions like Paganism and Wicca. If he was a Satanist I would assume he would have had a Satanist pentagram. That pentagram the end of it is longer than the rest. It's not balanced. His looks like the Pentagram of the Pagans and Wiccans which talks about the balance of life and karma and all that. Karma isn't something a Satanist worries about. Seems to me the guy didn't know too much about Satanism to be a follower. If he was truly a Satanist I'm sure he would have known that basic knowledge. I'm not one and even I know that! So why does he have the wrong pentagram? So I think he was doing a cry for attention as well and as another poster who claimed to know the guy said he was trying too hard to fit in. I wouldn't be surprised since he was a sixteen year old. I wonder if he hung around a lot of older people and thus the whole trying too hard thing? To CG about the planning murder is generally not something that is sprung. It depends. The more time that goes into planning the murder the more it shows it was planned. I would like to know his reasoning for why fifty plus for the stabbing. That's an awful lot for stabbing when he could've done other measures with a knife like slitting a throat or something like that. Did he leave many finger prints behind? If he did than I would have to agree that this wasn't planned but if he didn't than it was especially with the claim that he had a vodka and cocaine. I wonder if he was going on Craig's list and prostituting himself out to eventually do murder? I'm just guessing and trying to understand why the fifty plus stabs. If you're really high and drunk can you pull something like that off or are you sloppy?

My mind is just wrapped around John i just worry about him...and i am aware He is not mentally right..of course not.. I will not take it to offesnce if he does act mean, i have been there...so i wont take it personally, but i'm going to attempt to visit him once a month or so... I HAVE to let him know he is NOT alone. I heard he has 25 years to life... I hope they shorten it.. He needs to know he has people's support. • Hi Kitty, I'm late to this, I realize but, I also really feel for you in your situation. The sense of confusion you must feel over the person you knew vs. the person who ended up in that apartment that night, I can only imagine. You seem very insightful for your age and I would hate for anyone like yourself to feel as if you don't care whether you live or die. Sometimes, the greatest gift we can give others is living through heartbreak and tragedy so that we can be a voice of wisdom for those who deal with those challenges after us. You may, someday, be able to help someone like yourself just because you've been there. I will be thinking of you on April 9 but just want you to know that, if he does not respond well or want to see you, please do not take it personally. Honestly, the way he is acting (even accounts of his behavior after the murder), he does seem like he may have had some kind of mental breakdown. Taking a picture of your blood pooled on a subway floor - from injuries sustained while committing a horrible murder - all so you can post it on myspace later is not normal behavior by any means. I suspect that, even if he truly was the person you felt he was, he may not be that person any longer. Or he may decide that it will hurt you less if he acts cold and mean toward you so that you hate him. He may hate himself so much that he's going to push everyone away. Please try and prepare youself for that. Finally, know that sometimes, when a person has experienced the kind of trauma you have experienced, they will gravitate towards other people who are somewhat broken themselves. I say this with no disrespect at all. But, this may be one of the reasons why you didn't see that John may have had his own issues. You are sad about your sister and you don't really have the support of your parents and so it's easy to find yourself attracted to someone else who may have also been sad, lonely and confused. Sometimes we gravitate towards people who need us, or whom we need, rather than people who are good for us. The best thing for you to do for yourself is to - like others have said here - try to get yourself some help. You may not have access to therapy or, as it seems you have insinuated, you may have tried it and don't feel it helped. Keep trying anyway. Counselors are like anything else, sometimes you have to try a few before you really click with someone. I wish you all the best.

• Doug, that's really good advice -- Kitty, in whatever you choose to do, I hope you can prepare yourself in what you may want to say.. As Doug states, you may not be able to say it, it may not come out right, you may decide not to say what you planned, etc.. We are a week away, which seems so close -- There is no actual way to plan your meeting because it will depend on the circumstances once it happens.. I just hope you can get whatever it is you are needing by your meeting.. You may not want to come out here and reveal what was said.. Then again, you may want to, it's totally in your hands at that point.. Just know that there are people here to vent to, although we all have different opinions, it has seemed to help you somewhat.. I am sorry you are not close to your mom.. I was very close to my mother, but only as I got older, once I was "raised" - She and I didn't see eye to eye much when I was younger.. But I realize, after losing her 9 months ago, that she only did the things she did because she wanted me to make the right decisions. I was not always the easiest person to deal with, just in my life.. My dad, he is a different story.. He's there physically but that's it.. They divorced when I was 8 so it's been a weird ride with him.. My birthday was Tuesday and my brother had to remind my dad to call, lol.. And when he did, he asked how old I am now.. It is just Classic Dad! See, a lot of us have some family issues we are dealing with too.. It's not just you and it's not just your age.. Sometimes things don't make sense until you are too old to care! So I understand the parent thing, it can be tough.. I am just sorry you are having to go through that.. As Doug said, we are just text on a screen but I, for one, to feel as if you have needed someone to vent to, to go to for understanding, and I hope we have helped with that.. :)

• CG - I don't think John went there not expecting sex. And from what I've read elsewhere, Weber was expecting to masturbate (not clear who would be doing it). Weber wasn't looking for vanilla sex - just to get off in the degrading way he liked to. Either way, these are the limits I referred to. Maybe John might touch Weber, but if Weber grabbed John's crotch and that wasn't discussed, he'd rightfully be pissed. And if John wasn't used to doing coke, perhaps uncontrollably pissed. Kids his age often have problems controlling their anger is freaky situations. Who knows... But yeah, I still don't believe John ever intended or thought he'd kill Weber until it happened, and same for Weber. Anyway, this whole situation is really sad. And I still think John is going to get more punishment than he deserves. It's unfortunately easy to depict John as a baby-eating satanist freak to a jury. Kitty - I don't think you need to get tested because of your interactions with John. And I'm pretty uptight about this kind of thing. But if you're sexually active, you should get tested regularly no matter what. Every 6 months is reasonable. I also think it's fine if you visit John. Be prepared for the visit to be painful - you already know this. Nothing you can't get over, though... There will be reporters. John might be mean to you. John might be nice to you but could tell you stuff that is really scary or upsetting. You might be appalled by how John is being treated. You might not manage to say to him what you really want to say... Or you might not be able to talk to John at all. Perhaps you want to have someone to talk to with you - just note that you probably won't be able to use your phone in there. If you want to bring him something, call up and find out if it's allowed (for someone who is 16). You can probably give him a piece of paper, as long as there isn't anything explicit on it. I mainly suggest you go because you might only have one chance to do it, and that you have a gut feeling you should go. If you think the regret you'll have by not going will stay with you, then absolutely - go. As for John? You might make him really happy by visiting, or give him a sense that people still care about him. After all, his dad was involved in his capture. So his sense of trust might be a bit screwed up. Either way, I hope you've found someone you know to talk to about this. Several people here are being really kind and helpful, but in the end, we're just text on the screen. You need someone that will give you a hug. And not just one of these -> *hugz*. And by the way, John's life isn't over. Just the one he knew probably is. Even if he gets out when he's 18 because he's not tried as an adult, everyone will know what he did. He might not know this. Encourage him to hang in there. Good luck!

• Ugh...we go through this every time a teenager is accused of committing a heinous crime, so I really don't even have the energy to voice the common refrain..."He's NOT a great guy if he did this! Great guys do NOT do what he is accused of doing!" It always falls on deaf ears, so what's the point. Kitty, I've been reading your posts and I really feel for you. I hope you have, or find, an adult you can trust in your life. You have talked several times about wanting to die, and it seems like you are either crying out for attention (and visiting him in jail would be a symptom of that, to me) or because you really do want some help with everything you've gone through, everything you are going through. Either way I hope you find what you need.

• My daughter was very close to john and I knew him as a very polite boy. Yes someone lost their life but he had no business having a minor in his home and giving that minor drugs. • Kitty - Don't apologize, you were/are experiencing something that most people never have to deal with.. I am just glad to see that you let that wall down somewhat and took in what everyone had to say -- Shows that you ARE more mature than most 15 year-old kids. Please take care of yourself out there.. You are right, you can't always take people at face value, you never know who you are meeting on the net.. • I happened to get on the G train and see this kid bleeding all over the place. To be honest, I looked at him and wondered what he did. He had a tan ABC gym bag and over sized clothes on (which apparently were the reporter's). Said his finger almost got cut off. Someone asked him if he wanted an ambulance... I almost started laughing. Want? how bout need? If he didn't get medical attention soon he would have passed out and later blead to death. He said "no, I'm fine.. no ambulance... I'm fine. thanks." There was at least a pint of blood on the floor and chair next to him. He said there was more in the other cars. We told him to keep his hand above his heart. He got up to look at the train map, asked if the last stop was coming, then took a picture of the puddle of blood he left on the chair. Said he's gonna put it on myspace. Last stop... Court Square. He gets off the train, dripped his way up the stairs and that was the last I saw of him. To be honest, he didn't seem like a stereotypical crazy person. But I'm not defending anyone. All we know now is that Weber put an AD offering up cash and coke for a violent homosexual encounter that turned deadly. Did Katehis premeditate the whole thing? Was he acting in self defense? Was Weber a pedo? Who knows. That is what investigators are for. The kid obviously had issues. Stabbing the dude 50 times? yeah, that is overkill, but the kid was coked up. How many people in this thread who are bashing the kid have done coke? I don't mean a key bump, try a couple grams or more in an hour. Do enough of that shit and anyone could snap like that if a situation turns bad. About him trying to sell his story... who the fuck cares? If I were him, I'd try to sell it too. I'd need it to pay the lawyer. Didn't OJ write a book about how he "would have" killed his wife? I've been reading crap from both sides on the web about this story. "Weber likes young boys, Katehis was a psycho." Point is... stupidity kills.

• Kitty, whatever decision you make, do it using your brain and not your heart.. And I don't just mean by visiting him, I mean when it comes to him period.. I agree with Unamused where in he states that you are seeming to try and come to terms with what has happened and not remain in denial.. Which is why this entire debate with you started -- Because you did seem to be completely in denial.. Which I understand.. Especially knowing you are 15.. At 15 most people don't deal with a situation like this involving a friend/boyfriend/someone special to them.. However, it does appear that you have taken some of the things we said into consideration and I do think you have moved in a better direction than the denial. I feel that you first posted here to defend him but it appears now that you were possibly seeking more of a better understanding of people's outrage and I hope you found that out here.. In whatever decision you make, be careful and be safe - And I stress to you again, tell your parents (or an adult that you trust) where you are going.. And I would tell you this even if you were running down the street.. This city/these burroughs are full of nuts, just be safe..

• Kitty, this is the SMARTEST thing you've written here. "Lesson Learned: Don't Meet Random Strangers Off Of Craig's List For Sex. Mostly Men Younger/Older than you." Except that I'd amend the last part. I would suggest NEVER meeting ANYONE from Craigslist or anywhere else, online, for sex. It's risky....and stupid.

• Kitty - having someone close to you involved in a serious crime like murder is an incredibly stressful and huge event in anyone's life, let alone that of a 15-year old. To have such a deeply traumatic experience right at the point where ALL experiences still seem larger-than-life must be devastating, but you seem to be trying to come to terms with it rather than remaining in denial, which is very admirable. I too would recommend that you talk about this with someone you trust, or a professional counselor if you so choose, in order to help you close the chapter on this particularly ugly event. Life goes on, longer than you would ever think possible in your teens, and time helps close the wounds. • The sexual encounter Weber was after was not really that strange, although my guess is that he crossed the line - see my theory below. One thing is likely though: John is straight. I sometimes hang out with young straight guys (usually around 20 - always over 18 though, and I check!) and have them rough me up a little. Personally, I like getting stepped on. Can't say why I like that, but so what. It's hot. I have fun. The guys have fun too, but its not sexual for them. Usually its a power trip. Or just hilarious. • John Katehis was a semi-close friend of mine. I met him at a school I was attending in Westchester County, where I stayed at a Residential program. He was not a resident if the program, he was what they called a "day student", he went to the school but lived at home. In school, we had almost the exact same schedule which enabled our friendship. I was only part of the program for about five months (a relativly short stay, in contrast to some people being there for years), we talked alot. We had in common that we were both two of the only caucasian kids who listened to rock music. John and I stayed in loose contact over the last six months, since I had left.
