Grand Junction, Colorado authorities have released further information about the arrest of possible serial murder suspect Jerry Louis Nemnich, age 64.

Police began a new investigation into the murders of Linda and Kelley Benson over a year ago when Grand Junction Police Commander Greg Assenmacher started looking over the evidence collected after the murders in late July, 1975.

Assenmacher recruited a retired cop named Larry Bullard and the pair began applying 21st century investigative acumen to this very cold case. A Grand Junction Police cold case task force was assembled in February of this year and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Mesa County District Attorney’s Office joined the investigation. The task force rounded up enough evidence to get a judge to issue a warrant for Jerry Nemnich’s arrest.

The task force found Nemnich in Longmont, Colorado and the Longmont PD was brought into the case. Nemnich’s movements were tracked and on April 8th he was arrested at the Loma Port of Entry “without incident.”

In their press release detailing the events surrounding the arrest of Jerry Louis Nemnich, Grand Junction Police stated the following: “After more than 30 years, there is still a lot of work that must be done We are asking that anybody who may have known Nemnich to please call the GJPD at 970-244-3568.”
