Commenter Jamie linked this article by Colorado TV station KJCT 8 identifying 64-year-old Jerry Louis Nemnich as the suspect in the 1975 murders of Linda Benson and her 5-year-old daughter Kelly. KJCT reports that Nemnich has a rap sheet dating back more than 40 years:

According to CBI records, Nemnich was arrested on numerous sex assault charges dating back to 1968. He was arrested in Boulder, Denver and Jefferson Counties on charges of assault with the intent to commit rape, kidnapping and weapons charges.

This presents an interesting prospect for Ken Botham, whom I told you about in the first post about this case. Botham was convicted of killing Linda Miracle, her children, and his own wife Patricia in the late 1970s. Linda Miracle and Patricia Botham knew and were friendly with Linda Benson, who was murdered along with her daughter about a month before Linda, Chad and Troy Miracle as well as Patricia Botham vanished, only to be found murdered later that fall.

Until his untimely death in August, 2008, Ken's son Thayer Botham maintained the website under Ken's name and even though Thayer seemed to clearly want to exonerate his father if possible, he was open to the possibility that his father might indeed be guilty after all. Thayer Botham's work on KenBotham.com linked Linda Benson and his father's (alleged) victims, and that makes me wonder if Ken Botham might have grounds to appeal his conviction again now that Jerry Louis Nemnich has been arrested.

Also of interest - Colorado is home to some of the more intriguing and chilling unsolved murders in the United States. Could some other, more high-profile cases be solved with Nemnich's arrest? I'll be anxious to see.

Grand Junction authorities will hold a press conference later today to discuss Nemnich's arrest. This post may be updated or revised based on whatever comes out of that presser.
