I received a tip that the "sexaddict5385" handle for Phil Markoff had been misreported by various mainstream media outlets. It isn't that they misreported as much as the 23-year-old alleged "Craigslist killer" may have used a variation on the screen name in other places on the Web - he just added an "8" - "sexaddict53885."

One post was on Outpersonals.com, a site for "Worldwide gay" personal ads - that post was the source of the screencap above. "sexaddict53885" used the same photo for his comment on an article about an author hooking up with a guy in a bathroom while on a book tour as "sexaddict5385" used for comments on Passion.com.

The same poster left comments on ExtremeRestraints.com, a networking site catering to the bondage community. "sexaddict53885" found this article on etiquette when attending a BDSM party "useful."

"sexaddict53885's" profile on alt.com ("World's Largest BDSM & Alternative Lifestyle Personals" dating site) explained what the young man was into and what he was seeking:

The same profile gave a laundry list of what the 23-year-old grad student was into - warning, this is graphic:

The profile owner described himself as a 6'4", blond, blue-eyed caucasian - a description that fits Markoff to a "T". He also said he preferred a sexually "submissive" role. He had been a member of ALT.com since May, 2007. 

And sexaddict53885 gave Markoff's exact birthdate - February 12, 1986.

But as you know - if you've been following this most tawdry of recent Craigslist-related criminal cases - Megan McAllister, Phil Markoff's fiancee, is standing by her man. This is a quote from her statement issued April 28, 2009:

What has been portrayed and leaked to the media is not the Philip Markoff that I know. To me and my family, he is a loving and caring person and in the eyes of the law and constitution, he is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I just can only hope that the criminal justice system will not be overwhelmed and persuaded by what is being put forth in the media. My fiancé's fate should not rest in the court of public opinion, but rather in a court of law.

It's hard to feel anything but sorry for her.
