60 years of the FBI's Most Wanted list
Fascinating unedited FBI video of Gerhartsreiter/Rockefeller interview.
Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, known to many Americans as Clark Rockefeller, has been found guilty in a Boston courtroom of kidnapping his daughter. From the AP/MSNBC:
Rockefeller, whose real name is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, snatched his daughter during a supervised visit last July. He also was charged with two assaults on a social worker and with giving a false name to police. The jury found him guilty of one of the assault counts, but acquitted him on the other and on a charge of giving a false name to police.
Gerhartsreiter could face up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced later today.
But we're not done with "Rockefeller" yet. Los Angeles authorities would still like to know about his relationship with Jon and Linda Sohus, a young couple who vanished in the 80s after taking Gerhartsreiter on as a boarder in their Southern California guest house.

For those that do find this case fascinating (as I have) the January issue of Vanity Fair did a great piece on him. It's awe-inspiring how we has able to keep up this charade and at the same time take care of his brilliant little girl. You can read it here: http://tinyurl.com/6c6hgu
Posted 06/12/2009 at 01:55:19 PMI don't know much about this guy, but if I ended up divorced and could only see my daughter three times a year while being supervised by social workers, I think I'd probably attempt the same thing.
Posted 06/12/2009 at 03:59:23 PMVery strange. I remember the Sohus case. I know the woman who owned the now-defunct SF bookstore where Linda Sohus once worked. I remember the owner (years later) telling a story about an employee who was in charge of opening the store literally disappearing off the face of the earth. I vaugely recall hearing about the same ex-employee's husband's bones being found during an excavation for a swimming pool during the mid 1990s. At the time of the bones being discovered, the general consensus was that Linda was still alive and probably involved, if not the culprit. Obviously, from what I've read about Gerhartsreiter/Rockefeller, that is far from the case. It's clear to me that "nerdy" John Sohus did some research into what "Chichester" was claiming about himself and was in danger of revealing him to be a fraud, and Gerhartsreiter, being the narcissist that he is, reacted to the threat by killing him. What Gehartsreiter did with Linda is anybody's guess. But I would not be surprised if those strangely worded postcards she supposedly sent friends and family after the fact were written under duress and gun-point.
Posted 06/12/2009 at 10:36:25 PMWhile I have sympathy for "Father's Rights," this is NOT the time to bring up this particular issue. Christian made a decision to accept $800,000, 2 cars, an engagement ring, and a dress in exchange for his custody rights. You signed away your daughter - now, live with it, Christian. Your dramatic pleas for sympathy: "All I ever wanted was to be a father," are pitiful. You signed a deal, now suck it up and live with your money, cars, diamond and dress. Playing the victim disgusts me. Thank you, jury.
Posted 06/12/2009 at 11:50:32 PMLooking forward to what the current grand jury in LA decides about this case.
Posted 06/13/2009 at 12:28:17 AMyes, Teton Cowgirl, I get the $800k, material driveable stuff and to some degree the engagement ring (could be a Rockef..uh, strike that, 'family heirloom.') But the DRESS. What's up with the dress?
Posted 06/13/2009 at 05:03:17 PMI subscribe to Vanity Fair. No where have I seen any explanation of the dress. Anyone know?
Sure hope that Los Angeles jury gets moving and nabs him
Posted 03/14/2010 at 12:23:43 PMbefore he gets out of jail and disappears again. Who knows
how many other people he has hurt or killed? How can anyone allow a person like this to have any contact with a child? His case reminds me so much of someone else I know that has been deluded by this type of person.. almost identical, but not as elaborate.. and is still deluded.
Frightening. He is too dangerous to be walking around.
