Palatka isn't far from the Satsuma trailer home where the little girl disappeared February 10. Haleigh's great-grandmother, Annette Sykes, went to the pond to find deputies and investigators working in the woods. But they refused to say whether they were looking for Haleigh, and wouldn't let her get any closer to the pond. One deputy told Central Florida News that they were looking for stolen property from a nearby home, but draining a pond -- and using this much manpower -- would seem unusual for a simple burglary case. They have, however, found 100 potted marijuana plants at the side of the pond.
The remote area is heavily wooded and hard to get to. Deputies has to used bulldozers to widen the road so pumpers could get in. More as this story develops...
