Blake Hayes: NYPD Gave Gay-Bashing Marine a Pass in Beating

​New York radio DJ Blake Hayes says he was walking down the street with two friends in Hell's Kitchen when a man outside McCoy's bar flicked a lit cig at them. "Keep moving, faggot," he told them.

Hayes, something of a gay activist who talks for a living, isn't the kind to shut up. He and his friends got into it with the man, a Marine who'd recently returned from Iraq. The arguing escalated. That's when the Marine shoved one guy into a car, then punched another guy twice in the face. 

A bouncer broke up the fight, and the Marine went back into the bar. As a parting shot, he told Hayes and his friends to "go die of AIDS." But the worst of it happened after police arrived...

We'll let Hayes pick up the story, as he recounts it on his website:

"We exchanged words, more and more heated, until he started to approach us, threatening violence. Before we knew it, he had shoved me down the block, then thrown one friend against a car, denting it. The other took two punches to the face, cutting his lip before the bouncer at McCoy's came out and stopped him.

"We called the police. They arrived -- 5 cops or so, from at least 2 cars.  They talked to the guy who assaulted us. They asked us what happened.  We recounted the story."

But despite all those cops showing up, there were no arrests. Not even a report filed.

Now we can understand the cops wanting to give a break to a recently returned soldier. If they found him passed out on the sidewalk, or if he decided to go with another tough guy, we'd approve the granting of a boys-will-be-boys pass. But the whole "defending freedom" motif gets ruined when your countrymen aren't even free to walk down the sidewalk.

The owner of McCoy's told Hayes the Marine had been drunk and abrasive inside the bar as well. Which makes him significant dick who deserves to lit up, if only for soiling the good name of freedom and proper barroom cheer.

Internal Affairs and the NYPD's hate crimes task force are now investigating.
