| Dennis Carter Sr.: Killed three family members then shot himself |
Amber Carter attempted to flee her father in-law as he was systematically gunning down his family. As Dennis Carter Sr. fired away, the pregnant Amber leaped from a second story window in Holden, Louisiana with her two-year-old son in her arms. Amber was critically wounded, but two-year-old Mason wouldn't survive the gunshot wounds.
Neighbors saw Dennis Carter leave in his Chevy El Camino. Minutes later, Livingston, Louisiana police saw him enter freeway I-12. But Carter shot in killed himself in full view of officers as he neared the Holden exit. Back at the house, police found his estranged wife Donna, his son Dennis, and his two-year-old grandson Mason dead.
It appeared to be the culmination of a stormy relationship between Dennis Sr. and his wife. He'd been arrested three times this year for violating a protection order and domestic abuse. Amber Carter, six months pregnant, was in a Baton Rouge hospital with life-threatening injuries as of this morning...
UPDATE: Though she was only six-months pregnant, Amber Carter has given birth to a healthy baby named Aubrey. The mother, however, remains in critical condition. She was shot in both the kidney and live, and suffers from spinal damage after leaping from a second-story window of the Carter family home.
UPDATE II: It now appears Dennis Carter's murder spree could have been stopped -- if only his son knew what his dad was about to do. Livingston Parish deputies say Carter's son Devin received a threatening call from his dad the day before the massacre. Devin filed a complaint with the sheriff's office, and a deputy told him about the procedures he would need to do to have his father arrested. But Devin had yet to finish the process by the next day, when his Dennis Sr. went on his rampage.

Posted 09/06/2009 at 12:04:03 PMThis is horrible and an example of the absolute failure by those who are sworn to protect. What good are these so called protection orders? What are families being threatened supposed to do if these protection orders have absolutely no effect? There must be a better way to actually serve those in danger, as well as those who are so borderline that they are a threat also to themselves.
Shameful. Surely we can do better than this. A TWO year old was shot dead, as well as a pregnant mother. What in the world is wrong with us?!!!!
I agree. I'm praying for Amber and her unborn child. Please Jesus show your mercy on this woman and her baby. I beg of you. I pray for all the deceased especially for Baby Mason. I pray he is playing in heaven with all the angels. God Bless their souls.
Posted 09/06/2009 at 02:05:16 PMThe "unborn" child was delivered via c-section 3 months premature and her name is Aubrey. My prayers go out to the whole family.
Posted 09/06/2009 at 02:33:20 PMThe only positive in this whole story is that Dennis Carter Sr. saved the state some money by doing himself in.
Posted 09/06/2009 at 03:10:38 PMPublic praying is frowned upon by god. Matthew 6:5: And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing on the street corners to be seen by men. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
Why would anyone ask Jesus to show mercy on this woman and her baby? You don't think Jesus would show mercy unless you asked him to? Please make sense.
There is no heaven,
Posted 09/06/2009 at 03:43:02 PMThere is no hell,
There is no god,
I wish you well.
Err... a terrible crime to be sure. But is this post written in English? It was so chock full of grammatical errors and typos (starting from Line 1) that I could hardly wade through it. Real professional-like, LOL.
Posted 09/06/2009 at 04:17:58 PMWoah hey it's Larkin, the negative commenter. Did you enjoy that post the other day where everybody was complaining about poor ole Pete? Did you join in on the fun? I bet you did you negative soul you.
I don't know about you but that post definitely isn't written in Spanish, Italian, German, French, or any other language. Looks a lot like English to me.
Posted 09/06/2009 at 10:13:14 PMWhat a evil excuse of a human being that baby killing woman beating coward was. I hope hell is hot enough for him right now. And hell also to the pathetic excuse of a judge/lawyer or LE who failed to protect this family from a monster like that. Its sickening. How many times was he allowed to walk free when he should have been locked up, before it came to this?
Posted 09/06/2009 at 10:19:48 PMMy thoughts and prayers are with Amber and her family in this time of great sorrow.
Posted 09/06/2009 at 11:20:41 PMParlemort quoted scripture yet does not believe in God, interesting. The scripture in which he quoted if the whole chapter is studied teaches us that we are to be humble in our prayers and not praying simply to bring attention to ourselves. If one studies the scriptures, and not merely read them, they will find that God hears the prayers of those that are sincere whether they be privately or publicly. If one does not believe in God then someone praying for Amber in public should be the least of their concerns. If you've taken the time to look up scriptures about praying in public maybe you should take the time to find out what God has planned for those that do not believe in him.
The judge(s) who let this animal go free over and over deserve to be held criminally responsible. Every police agency in the country should be given the opportunity to lethally dispose of their top 10 worst repeat offenders. If prayers make you people feel better, go ahead. Me, I would rather do everything in my power to convince those with a violent plan to do the right thing and just kill yourselves. It's easy, fast, and it's the right thing to do. Please, I'm begging you. Kill yourself. It's ok, you're doing the right thing. Anyone in a position to convince someone like the animal in this story, please do so. Be calm, be persuasive, do what you can. Convince those who would hurt others to do what is right, and that is to end their own lives. The pain will go away. Just do it. Cut yourself, shoot yourself, hang yourself. Just don't hurt anyone else. End it. PLEASE. Those of us who have been hurt, the souls of those murdered, and those of us who will live on because of your doing the right thing, are asking you to PLEASE stop your own heart. It's ok, just let go, and your sparing the innocents from your wrath is a kindness you are capable of, even in your rage. I promise you, the pain will be over.
Posted 09/06/2009 at 11:58:39 PM@ Donna: I googled it. I will never read the buybull. It is full of anger, vengeance, rapes, and murders. Which scripture shows that your god approves of public prayer? It is not advisable to pray in public in front of my children. Good day.
Posted 09/07/2009 at 08:07:55 AMParlemort...before you judge, I myself am an atheist, but I must admit I am a good bit disgusted at your lack of tolerance. Lets forget for a moment that you have taken the course of this article's topic and turned it into a religious debate, which is very disrespectful to the families this is about. If you disagree with pray that's ok, but to bite back at someone for wanting to pray is no better than someone biting at you for not wanting to pray. Is there decent religious tolerance in this country? No I don't think there is, but don't think for a second you are not part of the problem.
Religious tolerance is not only having the freedom to not be persecuted for your beliefs, but also not persecuting others for theirs. I have many Christian friends, do they agree with my views, and do I agree with theirs? No, we don't but we don't judge each other either. If they want to pray, if it makes them feel better and brings them comfort then what by all means is wrong with that?
Further more someone praying in front of your children is not an issue of them praying in public. If you don't believe in such things, that's fine but it is your responsibility to teach that to your child. You can not shelter children for every thing you may not agree with. Some Hindu followers wear a bindi on their foreheads, which also expresses their religion as well as other meanings, but would we call for all of them to not wear this in public? To do so, I think, is the opposite of religious tolerance.
Also, you stating you will never read the bible (or buybull as you disrespectfully put it) is in my opinion quite ignorant. You say you'll never read it...but you state "it is full of anger, vengeance, rapes and murders." So I can only assume you are taking the word of someone else that has read it or pieces you have read online. If you're going to disagree with something, be aware of what you are disagreeing with. I've read the bible and yes there are parts as which you speak, but also good ones as well. Do I agree with the book as a whole? No, I don't...but I took the time to read what I choose not to agree with, as well as other religious books (some of which I'm still working on).
If we're all going to grow as human beings then we need to learn not to hate each other for the most petty reasons...all of us, Christians, Muslims, Buddhist, Atheists, Realists, all of us...
Now, please, lets turn this thread back on the matter of the article. If I've offended you, I'm sorry, but please remember to think before speaking. If you wish to discuss this further, please lets do it off this thread. I happen to be friends with the mother of Amber, who is still fighting after 10 hours of surgery. She's lost her husband and Mason, and has been through more than most of us have. Hate and disrespect is part of the cause of what they've been through...we don't need anymore of that right now.
Posted 09/07/2009 at 03:21:03 PMVery ell written RTW..and yes lets get this back on topic.
Posted 09/07/2009 at 05:36:02 PMI vote that EVERYONE has a negative comment until Pete shuts the fuck up. He is not a responsible blogger, nor reporter. And I wish he had kept his promise to shut up until tomorrow.
Until Pete Kotz goes. FLEE this blog.
Posted 09/07/2009 at 11:53:26 PMI would like to personally thank those of you who offered kind words of support, remorse, and hope for myself and my family. I especially appreciate the prayers. I am still in a wheelchair, but thankfully my spinal cord injury is "incomplete", therefore I have a chance to be able to walk again after extensive physical therapy. My left forearm was crushed from the fall and I have only partial use of that arm. My daughter, Aubrey, is still in the neonatal intensive care unit, but is doing well and may be able to come home soon.
Posted 01/28/2010 at 06:15:05 PMDennis Sr was a monster, indeed. Besides several DWIs, Sr. was first arrested for attacking his wife with a machete. He was charged with aggrevated assault! What a joke, huh?! That's our judges for you! He was released on a small bail by his parents as soon as he sobered up in jail. He was arrested the same day he was released for violating the restraining order his wife put in place after she was attacked. He was charged several times again for violating the order before he finally murdered my family and injured myself and my unborn daughter permanently. Each time he was arrested Sr's parents bailed him out, fully aware of what their son was capable of. I wonder how they sleep at night. Something needs to change in the judicial system and domestic violence should be treated more seriously by these judges. Dennis Sr should have been charged with attempted murder after the machete attack and held in prison without bail until his trial date. THAT would have been real protection instead of a useless piece of paper. If this had been taken more seriously, my family would be alive.
