| 12-year-old Keara Hess was due to give birth any day |
It was the oddest case. Matthew Hess of Mooresville, North Carolina left a note last week for his estranged wife, saying he was taking their daughters to school and running some errands. But the woman became suspicious when 12-year-old Keara Hess, who's nearly nine months pregnant, never showed up for a doctor's appointment.
An Amber Alert was issued, since Keara was close to giving birth and police worried if she had proper medical care. Still, no one heard from dad or daughters for a week. Today they were found in Smith County, Tennessee after being pulled over in a traffic stop.
The kids seem okay, though Keara and her 11-year-old sister Sierra were taken to a hospital for a check-up. Dad, meanwhile, has been charged with child neglect and contributing to the delinquency of a minor...
| Keara Hess has yet to name the father of her baby |
Police have yet to reveal the specifics behind the charges. The neglect charge may simply stem from failing to get the pregnant girl medical attention. But delinquency charges usually stem from something a bit more sinister.
And it remains to be seen why Matthew Hess bolted with his daughters in the first place. He wouldn't be the first guy to take his children from an estranged wife. But Keara has never named the father of her baby. Add that fact to Matthews flight, and it appears there will be a lot more news about this case before it's over.
