Luke Petruschke had two previous sex-crimes arrests, but was never convicted
Krish Carter and his wife Dawn met Luke Petruschke at a homeless shelter two years ago. Petruschke, a down-on-his-luck truck driver, seemed to make the ideal friend. "Any time I needed help he would be the first to jump up and help," Dawn told the Sun-Sentinel.

What she didn't know is that Petruschke had been arrested twice before on sex charges, though he'd never been convicted. So the Carters introduced him to their new neighbor, Manuel Vega, at a Labor Day barbecue, and they too became fast friends.

Petruschke had dinner at Vega's Davie, Florida home last week, then spent the night. He, Vega and Carter planned to go fishing in the morning. But the next day Vega's 3-year-old boy said Petruschke had molested him. That's when all hell broke lose...

Neighbors say they watched as Vega, 27, and Carter, 43, beat the shit out of Petruschke with rocks and concrete blocks, also smashing his car. When he arrived at the hospital, he was so badly beaten he had to be placed in a medically-induced coma. He's now been charged with molestation. But Vega and Carter have even worse problems.

They've been charged with attempted murder. Both men have had problems with the law before. Vega had previously been arrested auto theft, burglary, and writing forged checks. Carter has arrests for disorderly conduct, trespassing and resisting arrest.

At least one person thinks the men were completely justified in giving Petruschke a pounding. That would be Dawn Dwyer-Carter, Krish's wife. "I'm not surprised he got in the middle of it," she says of her husband. "He's a father, too."
