Ashley "A.J." Jewell, who appeared on The Real Housewives of Atlanta as the fiance of Kandi Burruss, has been killed in a bar fight. Police say he got into a beef in the parking lot of The Body Tap Club in Atlanta, when he took "a severe blow to the head." Though details of the incident are still sketchy, detectives do have a person of interest in the case.

Jewell appeared on the TV show as the love interest of Burruss, the newest cast member and former member of the R&B group Xscape. The Grammy-winning producer recently recently told Essence magazine that she and Jewell were on "hiatus..."

Recent episodes have featured Burruss fighting with her mother over her possible marriage to Jewell. Mom thought Jewell, who had children by other women, wasn't the marrying kind because he never wed the mothers of his kids.

UPDATE: A.J. Jewell was apparently killed in a fight over the direction of the club.

Though details are still on the sketchy side, the beef seems to boil down to this. Jewell, a part owner of The Body Tap Club, got into an argument with Frederick Richardson, an employee. They took it outside to settle it. And judging by the police photos of Richardson, it appears Jewell gave as good as he got.

But at some point in the duker, Jewell took "a severe blow to the head," as police are describing it. That could mean he was hit by an object or -- more likely in cases like these -- was knocked down and smashed his head on the pavement.

"They had some words about a business decision," says Lt. Keith Meadows, head of Atlanta Police's homicide unit. "It seems like it was a struggle for power over the club."
