The Spring Break Disappearance of Brittanee Drexel

​Mother Dawn Drexel says she refused to let her daughter go to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to visit friends over spring break in April. But Brittanee, then 17, was a resourceful girl. She said she was staying with a friend in her home town of Rochester, New York. But she actually took off to visit friends in South Carolina.

Mom maintained cell phone contact with her, believing she was still in Rochester. She was last seen at the Bar Harbor Hotel in Myrtle Beach, where she was staying with friends. Surveillance video caught her leaving the lobby, supposedly on her way to meeting friends at another hotel...

A weekend search in the area where she last texted a friend turned up empty
​She talked to her mom by phone that afternoon, and also talked to her boyfriend at 8 p.m. that evening. But she hasn't been seen since.

When last seen the tiny 5-foot, 100-pound girl was wearing shorts and flip-flops. Though she suffers from depression, neither her family nor police believe she ran away. Her dad believes she left for Myrtle Beach to get away from the drama of his pending divorce from Britanee's mother. And though she met five boys from Rochester on her trip, all have been cleared in the case.

Over the weekend, 100 police officers and volunteers searched areas of Georgetown and Charleston counties on horseback and ATVs looking for the girl. The area's believed to be the place where Brittanee last sent a text message to a friend. But despite the use of cadaver dogs, the search came up empty.
