Brittni Carlini Burned, Beaten to Death With Baseball Bat by Friends
UPDATE: Accused killer Ryan Vigil commits suicide by hanging himself in his cell. See update after the jump...![]()
Brittni was beaten to death, set on fire, and then buried outside Albuquerque
Brittni Carlini, a 20-year-old college student from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was excited about a snowboarding trip she had planned for last weekend. So she went to the home of her friend Ryan Vigil to retrieve a snowboard. That's when she disappeared.
Her parents reported her missing the next day. The trail quickly led to Vigil, 19. He admitted that they -- along with another friend, Christopher Midyette, also 19 -- got into an argument over the trip. As Brittni was leaving, Vigil says Midyette smashed her in the head with a baseball bat. The pair then took her to a remote area, dug a grave, doused her with gas and set her on fire, then buried her...
| Detectives aren't sure if Brittni was romantically involved with Vigil or not |
Detectives think he may have been Brittni's former coworker of perhaps her boyfriend, but they're not sure. And while this is purely speculation, Brittni may have been killed over drugs. On her MySpace page, she goes by the link "Blondstoner420." That could mean she's nothing more than innocent pothead. But it also may indicate she threatened to reveal something about Vigil and Midyette during the argument.
"Ryan had disclosed that he had an issue with her and that Chris was protecting him and he had his back and that is why he struck Brittni," police spokeswoman Nadine Hamby told KRQE-TV.
UPDATE: It appears Ryan Vigil is one creepy little bastard. In 2006, he burned down the house of a girl who wouldn't date him.![]()
At 16, Vigil dug a grave in his backyard for a girl who wouldn't date him
According to Loni Petry, the girl's mother, Vigil had a crush on her daughter, but she wasn't into douchebags who still rock Counting Crows hairdos. Police say he dug a grave in his backyard intended for the girl. Then he set fire to her house, killing their dog and cat inside. Petry said he later "smirked" about the arson.
Vigil did two years in juvie before being released last year, but that seems an awful short sentence for a kid digging graves and burning down a family's home. Petry knew she'd hear from the little creep again. "There's no way a kid, that kid, is going to be rehabilitated, digging a hole for us, killing our animals, and burning down the house, there's no way," she told KRQE-TV.
UPDATE II: Accused killer Ryan Vigil hangs himself with sheets in his jail cell.
It looks like Ryan Vigil has done everyone a favor by making himself no more. Last night, jailers found him hanging in his cell from a noose fashioned from bed sheets. He was taken to a hospital where he died this afternoon.
