| Dogs and cats were nearly starved to death and without water |
More than 200 animals were placed in the hands of volunteers after investigators found them starving and lacking water. Some dogs were starved so bad they had to be put down. Employees also kept rabid dogs next to healthy ones...
In recent years, the shelter has seen an alarming rise in its death rate. In 2006, 75 animals died at the shelter. By last year, that number had risen to 193. Ten employees, including director Ernest Alexander, have been placed on leave while the investigation continues.

yep, that's my hometown. and he's right, it is run like a third world country. you should see how we treat people in need... about like these poor babies that were starved to death and treated cruelly.
i heard they will be putting cameras in the place so anyone can check via internet on the animals and the conditions there.
what a shame that people that chose to work with animals cared absolutely nothing for them.
Posted 11/05/2009 at 08:02:09 AMWhere is the link to the news story please?
I think putting internet-monitored cameras and recorders in every pound, shelter and humane society is a great idea.
Unfortunately, just like schools and children groups *attract* child molesters, animal torturers are attracted to animal shelters. People who work at such places are not nearly supervised enough.
Every time I see the helpless abused, merely because they're powerless to stop it themselves, I go a little more insane. Especially when the helpless are completely innocent and totally dependent on us because we dominate their world.
We must be much, much tougher on people who abuse animals. The people running this house of horrors must go to jail and must pay a very, very heavy fine, and reimburse the city for all the costs of rehabilitating these poor suffering creatures.
Oh. My. God. Starving an animal. I simply do not understand, nor will I ever understand, starving an animal in America.
When can we start shooting people who abuse animals? Can we start now? Please?
Posted 11/05/2009 at 02:36:45 PMI am with Alexa. I will be happy to be employed with the department that shoots at those who harm animals. If you can harm an animal, then I have no respect for you and if this were ever to be in existence, I would be the sharp shooter sitting in trees aimed at drivers who swerve to PURPOSELY hit animals. I would take aim at the driver and 'pow!!' its a gonner. No, I wouldn't kill, I would shoot to disfigure. CRUSH ANIMAL CRUELY!!!
Posted 11/05/2009 at 02:51:49 PMI remember back in high school, each student was assigned to write a comprehensive bill to congress, then in groups decide which ones should actually be sent. I wrote a surprisingly thorough bill about animal cruelty laws and handling sickos who abuse them. Which bill did our class choose? A notebook paper and pencil chicken scratch bill for legalizing weed. My only point is that society in general doesn't give a crap about anything, really. Kids grow up with hardly any depth, compassion, and good grief, barely any brains or common sense.
I'm a huge animal lover, so this case sickens me, and I wish that people would develop hearts and stop acting like barbarians all the damned time.
Posted 11/05/2009 at 05:36:19 PMI really hate when anyone calls, an evil person an "animal". If that were true, then they would be loyal to family, a good member of their society, compassionate, eager to please, obedient, and forgiving. No, I think the correct term for these sorry ass humans, is "Monster". I think these monsters should be prosecuted for cruelty and given a stiffer sentence by the judge, than other cruelty cases in Memphis. These f*ck*rs should know better. Lets make an example out of them.
Posted 11/06/2009 at 07:19:12 PMPlaced on leave? They should be arrested, not placed on leave. 10 empolyees and not one of them alerted the authorities. All 10 should be charged with a crime. Starve this low lives, and then they'll know what it is like to be hungry. Shame on them!
Why are the names of the employees not listed?
Posted 11/08/2009 at 12:48:17 PMWTF IS UP WITH THESE HICK STATES BEIN SO FUCKIN CRUEL?!?!?
