Randy Eugene Cliett encounters a teachable moment: You never want to be rescued from your own burglary
In today's installment of the Beginner's Guide to Crime, we introduce you to the concept of the escape plan. In a nutshell, it can be described as thus: You should have one.

That basic notion was seemingly lost on 49-year-old Randy Eugene Cliett. Having watched one too many master thief movies, he decided to burglarize the La Placita Mexico Supermarket in Haines City, Florida by sneaking through the roof ventilation system. But Cliett, obviously no scholar of mathematics, failed to calculate that his body was slightly larger than the vent he chose to execute his caper.

In other words, he got stuck. All night...

When owner Carmen Paulino arrived the next morning, she heard someone screaming for help. The fire department had to be called to rescue Cliett from the vent.

Our subject's ineptitude is especially troubling since this is his second attempt to rob La Placita. He was arrested in 2004 for breaking into the same store.

At this point, it might be wise to conclude that Cliett is either A.) not cut out for the burglary trade or B.) unsuited to advance beyond the beginner's slope, and could use some practice time robbing more remedial targets, like a gyro stand.

He's charged with burglar, possession of burglary tools, and felony criminal mischief.
