"The way the stories are building and becoming more outrageous (and beginning from 'recovered memories') reminds me of the McMartin Daycare cases from the late 1980s where kids started with accusations of molestation and ended up with stories of satanic cults, animal and dog sacrifice and other craziness...
"The whole thing turned out to be hysteria but in the meantime several people spent years in jail and had their business and their lives ruined. So while I'm encouraged to hear reports that evidence is possibly being discovered that backs up the story, I'm still taking everything with a LOT of salt until the case really takes shape.
"The minute to minute reporting on big stories these days lets a lot of half truths and rumors get into the narrative that people remember later even when they have been disproved. So I'm willing to wait and see what the "official" case turns out to be before convicting and condemning the men."
From the look of him, I doubt he needed help from his three young daughters to kill a man.
Posted 11/19/2009 at 09:46:08 AMI've actually thought the same thing. I guess anything's possible, but I think it's interesting that it was determined that something in the shape of a box was found to buried under the concrete floor in the basement.
Posted 11/19/2009 at 10:02:13 AMI totally agree with the comment. However, I have not been following this story for the very reasons you cite. It all seems just too unreal, and I will await the official outcome to read the factual details.
Posted 11/19/2009 at 10:42:20 AMI've been watching this one very closely. It does have a lot of markings of the "satanic panic" of the 80's. Including the ramping up of claims when no substantial evidence is produced. But at the same time these are serious allegations and they should be followed up.
It seems every time they find something that makes the family look bad (circumstantially; porn and weapons for example) they immediately release it to the press. I keep waiting for the announcement they found bodies....still waiting...and waiting...and waiting.
This isn't going to turn out good either way.
