| Kristi Cornwell told her boyfriend that someone was following her right before she disappeared |
The next thing Douglas Davis heard was the sound of a struggle. Then nothing. There's been no sign of the 38-year-old woman since.
Police now believe her kidnapper may have attacked again, this time 25 miles away in Ranger, North Carolina. The assault came on August 2, a week before Kristi went missing. An unnamed woman was walking near the Ranger Community Center when a creep tried to abduct her...
| A police sketch of the man presumed responsible for Kristi's kidnapping and an earlier abduction attempt on another woman |
The creep is described as white, in his 20s, with dark hair. That's a pretty loose description. But he's also assumed to be driving a silver Nissan Xterra with tinted windows and a brush guard. (You can tell he's a douche bag because he has a brush guard on a Nissan. What? Does he think Old Navy will move to the deep woods of Georgia?)
In the meantime, Kristi's family is going broke in their search. They've already put up a $50,000 reward and built a heliport to help with the search in the heavily wooded area.
Over the weekend, they auctioned off their lakefront home to pay for continued searches. The home, which as been in the family since 1958, went for $355,000. Relatives plan to use the money to pay for additional helicopter searches and newspaper ads.
"The costs are extraordinary," Kristi's brother Richard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "We're doing the things we need to generate cash to keep the search moving forward... We still believe we will find Kristi alive and we will hunt down the suspect who did this."

Hopefully investigators have already attempted a reverse look-up for the vehicle within DMV databases in the region(GA, NC, SC, TN, etc.). Some DMV databases will allow you to search for specific vehicle makes & colors which would narrow down vehicles with owners' names/addresses to provide a pool of potential suspects. A silver Nissan Xterra isn't a common vehicle, so any list should be relatively short.
Posted 12/07/2009 at 06:17:16 PMI really hope she is found alive and well (well, as well can be in an abduction situation.)
And I apologise if this seems like I'm making light, but the profile of the police sketch looks A LOT like Charlie Sheen.
Posted 12/07/2009 at 06:35:38 PMThere is a war going on in this country. A war against women and children. We need to be proactive. I am sure Kristi didn't anticipate confronting anyone of danger while walking at her parents home, but we all as women need to be on guard at all times to protect ourselves. It is not my intent to sound paranoid but we do need to know what is going on around us. We need to be a "hard" target to get. The police say that these monsters prey on the vulnerable and weak, those not paying attention to their surroundings. Husbands, boyfriends, fathers, brothers, everyone help keep the women and children in your family safe. Maybe I am being naive but if we start showing we are not taking this crap anymore maybe these whack jobs will start thinking twice before attacking someone. At least that is my hope. I pray for Kristi and her family may she come home safe, and soon. God bless her and her family.
Posted 12/07/2009 at 09:00:09 PMweired...I think hes has to somehow know her...did police check where she worked along with her friends and famly.. she was a probation officer did they check all of her clients out to see what they drove and are driveing?
Posted 12/14/2009 at 12:03:25 AMHoping to find Kristi alive is fulling understandable and desirable but unrealistic after the passage of four months.
Posted 12/18/2009 at 03:27:59 PMHope is always there until they find the truth. What about Elizabeth Smart? Almost 1 year. And then the other lady and her kids. Close to 15 years. I believe they are focusing too much on the local area. She could be captive anywhere in the country. I continue to pray for her safe and speedy return.
Posted 12/22/2009 at 04:41:25 AMI don't know about the Old Navy thing, but this guy is obviously a hunter, or is planning on abducting women and disposing of them in the woods (or both). With the brush guard, he can take it off and clean it. No foliage or such would be linked back to him. Just using some common sense here. Whether it's the same guy or not...who knows. I hope it's a possible lead for the family's sake.
