Mike Golub's blood was found on his ex-girlfriend's front porch. The two were in the midst of a custody dispute.
When Michael Eugene Golub, finished work at at Kramer Harvesting on May 20, 2005, he told others that he was going to pick up his five-year-old son at his ex-girlfriend's home. He never arrived at her home, and has not been seen or heard from since.

Those who knew him said that it wasn't like him to just leave town without telling someone. Besides, he had a fiancee, and an infant son that he constantly doted over.

Originally from California, Mike had lived in Stanton County, Kansas for several years and was well-established with ties to Johnson City. His mother resided there, as well as two of his children...

Two days after his disappearance, Golub's gold and brown Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was found abandoned on a rural road in northwest Grant County. The truck was equipped with toolboxes, and bore Trego County, Kansas license plates. Shortly after his truck was found, authorities began looking at Golub's disappearance as a possible homicide.

State and local authorities put out a description of Golub: 27-years-old, white male, brown hair and blue eyes. He was known as "California Mike," and has a tattoo of Sonic the Hedgehog on his right shoulder with the words "milk man" beneath it. He was listed as 6-feet two-inches tall, and weighed approximately 180 pounds. He was wearing a t-shirt and jeans that were stained with grease, work boots and sunglasses.

It was no secret to those in Johnson City that Golub and his ex-girlfriend, Shannon Floyd, had been involved in a custody dispute over the child they had together. Authorities believe he went to the home of Shannon and Chad Floyd where, they suspect, he was shot to death the night he disappeared.

Golub's blood was found on the Floyd's front porch, some of which had dripped into the spaces between the wooden planks. he Floyds had purportedly purchased a gun the day Golub disappeared.

Shannon and Chad Floyd had wanted to relocate to Montana, but Golub had filed a lawsuit against them in an effort to obtain custody of the son he'd had with Shannon before she married Floyd, who came from a wealthy local family. Golub's lawsuit had interfered with the Floyds' plans, and at one point Chad Floyd told friends that he planned to offer Golub $50,000 to drop the custody suit.

Shannon and Chad Floyd were eventually arrested and charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. The case went to trial in July 2007.

Their defense attorney said there was not sufficient proof that Golub was dead, and suggested that he committed suicide or left the area on his own. Because the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, a mistrial was declared. In April 2008 the couple went to trial again, but another mistrial was declared because the jury again failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

In November 2008, charges against Shannon and Chad Floyd were dismissed without prejudice, which would allow prosecutors to refile charges against them at a later date if additional evidence of their involvement ever comes to light.

Although Golub's body has never been found, authorities believe there is little room for doubt that foul play occurred. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation would like to solve this case, and is interested in hearing from anyone who has information about Mike Golub's disappearance and/or death.
