Reader: There's Just No Justice for the Common Woman

• Ok, once again alexa I'm on my migraine meds! Can you please explain to me what in the heck mellie is talkin about?! I know that probably makes me stupid, but whoo, I can't seem to understand it! Pete, You need to put more comments like alexa's! Some of the ones are just ridiculous! Example: KPR with the whole cop tasering the little girl. That one was just an ignorant person wanting to chime in! But, keep up the good work! This site definetly is interesting!

• I usually just pick comments that are interesting, forcefully argued and hopefully unique in some way in their take. Whether I agree or not is unimportant. The more pressing thing is letting people comment and debate. The site would really suck if I only followed my own interests, wouldn't it?

• <b>Mellie,</b> you are at least consistent. Missing my entire point is something you do every time. Try adjusting the knob to see if you can find the right frequency for a change. You won't mind if I don't stand around waiting for you to get it.

• <b>Hey Marie,</b> go check it out, Pete's featured my comment about this topic. I'm hoping it is because he, grudgingly, sees merit in my arguments. Of course, he could really be trying to highlight what he considers a foolish point of view. Could be either. For now anyway, I'm going to take it as a compliment, whether he likes it or not *grin*. And I reply to your comment above over there, too. =)

• Ugh seriously enough whining. What do YOU do in your daily life to make a change in what you see as injustice? Nothing,oh right. To bash our justice system as if it fails women most the time is just ridiculous. Particularly when you present no proof other then 'look its all over'. As with any group of people, there are good and bad cops/judges. Some who care about their jobs and the people they are supposed to assist and some who don't. If you don't get the assistance you think you should, you file a complaint, enough complaints end up with someone being looked at for failing their job. What you don't do is go around moaning about how that is just how it is. You are perpetuating your own worst thoughts in behaving like that. People like Alexa need to stop using their past mistakes and baggage to tell people what they need to do. Not all of us need a gun for self confidence.

• Alexa, How about pepper spray?! Would that work too?! I'm not very comfortable around guns, although my husband says its never a bad idea to have one, just in case. But I hear about the kids finding them, even the locked up ones, and fear our daughter could be one of those. I don't know. I'm kinda split. Yes I see that it is one of our rights, but then again I see idiots who have a gun, ones that should never be allowed to have one. Case in point. One of my cousins husbands has a gun. He is one of those people who shouldn't even be allowed to have a butter knife! He has threatened me more than once with it, simply because I won't take his shit and his "manhood" is at stake. The majority of our family tolerates him, but I don't. Yes, I do fear that one day he might snap and actually shoot me, which with him could happen at any of our numerous family functions! But like I said, I'm torn. For safety, I think yea I might need one. But what if they wrestle the gun from me and turn it on me? Then I'm up the creek without a paddle, and wounded or worse, dead. I do see what your sayin tho. Women need to be more agressive. We have taken too much crap for too long. I'm afraid to even let my dogs out at night in the same town I used to walk down the streets after dark with my siblings and cousins about 20 years ago. Even with the porch light on, I'm still scared, and I live in southwest kansas for crying out loud! Its not a big city, but it is gettin worse. We recently had a carjacking and a very horrible drive by. While drive bys have happened here before, its the facts surrounding the latest one that scares people here. This one thing I can completely 100% agree with you. Women need to stop relying on men and stand up for themselves.

• I believe there is a lack of realism in continuing to act like we are incapable of properly learning how to have a gun and how to use a gun. If I can be trained to use deadly force in order to get around, by driving a deadly ton, then I can learn how to protect myself using one of the best tools in existence for that very purpose. The prevailing self-disarming for the criminals' convenience attitude is that the average citizen is supposed to consider themselves too stupid, too silly, too irrational, too emotional, too untrustworthy to fully avail themselves of a fundamental, essential human right: SUCCESSFUL self-defense. Thanks for assuming I have a movie fantasy ideal floating around in my head that I can come to my own rescue. Wait. Hold it. I'm supposed to come to my own rescue. No one is obligated to defend me, not even the police (ask SCOTUS). Since I take that obligation seriously, I take very seriously how I intend to be successful, under every circumstance, no matter what the criminal has in mind. A split second decision to defend my life with superior certainty that results in the saving of my life is NOT a bad call. I will not go out of my way to give a trespasser into my home the extra extra extra benefits of the doubt and hold my fire. No. You come in my house without my permission, you accost me on the street, you try to climb into my car especially while I'm in it, then YOU made the bad call. You make a fundamental mistake Pete and that is to treat me like I'm merely a fool who cannot be trusted with her own Constitutionally Protected Right. Too many people have been falling for that drumbeat of Oceania-speak that they actually believe it must be true, merely because it is repeated so mindlessly. I whole-heartedly disagree with you. I am not the stupid simpleton who must meekly standby while I am victimized because you think I *ALLEGEDLY* might harm the "wrong" person and I am not alone. There are far more women like me than not. I don't fall for the standard tired line that "well, you might pop off and hurt someone innocent so it's just better if you keep yourself unarmed and stop using your 2nd Amendment right to allay my fears and prejudices because I'm really doing what's best for you and that is to treat you like you're too stupid and beyond all hope of being the perfect weapon wielder I fantasize exists." Nope. Sorry, I will not disarm myself to give you a measure of false comfort of thinking that an unarmed law-abiding citizen is better than an armed criminal.

• I'm not sure, Alexa. I think it's a common strain of conservative thought to believe that realists have guns, and they'll end up having to save the hippies/liberals/assorted other pansies some day because they're not carrying. But statistically speaking, you're more likely to shoot yourself or a loved one by accident or momentary rage than to ever defend yourself. It's not because you're bad people or reckless or anything like that. But if you talk to soldiers or cops who've actually shot people, they all talk about the natural panic that comes with situations like this. Those of us who live mundane lives, and don't have extensive police or military training, are bound to make bad calls when confronted by split second decisions of life and death. So I guess I think there's a lack of realism in the whole realist approach to guns. And a bit of self-aggrandizement in presuming you'll behave just like they do in the movies.

• I hate when I leave off a paragraph. I said "overly Christianized" and by that I really mean any person so indoctrinated by their beliefs/religion that they take pacifism to the point of pre-victimizing themselves for the criminals convenience.

• No, they tend to be the most irrational about it, forcibly denying to themselves the essential truths of the matter. They want, so very badly, to be right about not needing a gun, they'll assassinate their instincts and common sense to get there. And then, while they're standing around, under fire, facing annihilation, they'll turn to people like me, who will be armed, and EXPECT *me* to save their sorry butts. After they've called me every name in the book and done all they could to render my 2nd Amendment Right effectively useless.

• Noticeably, the Hate Crimes Act omitted women as a group that suffers persecution by crime PRECISELY because they are women. The number one chosen victim of crime is women. Slavery of women continues to this day, and in America. How many sex slave traders are charged with Civil Rights Act violations, convicted, put in federal prison, key thrown away and reported repeatedly, harped on, obsessed over? Nothing will make you invisible faster than being ignored by the press. As I keep saying and will until I can't anymore: women, get a gun. If anyone should be embracing and taking full advantage of their 2nd Amendment Right, it is women. Stop being afraid of the tool, you're not incompetent butter-fingered morons. Get angry, then get trained. Stop waiting for men to protect you. The brutal truth of the matter is the person who will most likely hurt you is a man you know and love. Stop falling for their words. Focus on what they DO. Trust me, the moment you arm yourself, and you make YOURSELF the force to be reckoned with, make the criminals afraid of you, watch how quickly you stop being a second class citizen. (When you notice how much more confidently you behave, knowing you can successfully repel an attacker, pay close attention to how men treat you then. Don't let it go to your head, and don't blab about it. But do feel empowered by it, because you are.) Watch how quickly a bunch of cowardly people, brainwashed by their hippie or overly Christianized parents or influential others rush to insist that guns are not the answer. When it comes to self-defense it is. It is an enduring, effective and dependable answer. Always has been, always will be.
