We should all be discussing and enjoying active, liberal and responsible use of all of our Constitutional rights. Karate is not just a defense system, it is a whole body philosophy that makes practitioners much more confident in their natural abilities. I highly recommend it. The only issue is that, simply due to how muscle mass is distributed on men vs women, a woman cannot rely just on karate for self-defense. Although, in a rape scenario, where the attacker is very close to her, with the right opportunity, it could prove highly effective. ;) I believe that healthy defense systems also instill a greater sense of personal responsibility (which is, I believe, essential to proper and effective gun ownership as well). I totally agree with you, the younger the better, but it is never too late!

It's the use of certain weapons such as guns, knives, explosives (and vehicles) that by their nature are likely to cause death or serious injury. You can certainly kill someone by shooting them in the foot. They can bleed to death or die of shock. jadensmokes, giving everyone a gun and having them defend themselves is a fantasy cure. It's a made-for-TV response to a serious problem. Worse, it's a made-for-Lifetime-TV response. You think that there is NO law, NO justice, NO safety, NO help from the police. I think you may be spending too much time fueling your paranoid fears on crime boards. And what you think is the solution is ... what? For everyone to carry guns? Do you really want that? For only "deserving people" to carry guns? Who's going to decide that? You? We don't live in a culture with two people, you and the bad guy. We live in a culture of three hundred MILLION people. • The more I think about your theory Alexa, the more I like it. Something's gotta give and this may be the answer. Criminals choose who they perceive as weak...which way too often is a female who is at a huge disadvantage due to sheer size and strength differences. Marie, martial arts training for a girl is great in many ways, but it also can give a sense of over confidence. It can be a big help though in many ways and an augment to other avenues of defense.

It's mostly about how women are victimized day in and day out, and the stats back that statement. who better to protect a woman than the woman herself? so, do you advocate that the most likely victim in our society does nothing to protect their being? do you consider women that carry guns are gun wielding nuts? do you think that attempted rape is a good enough reason to be judge and jury? or should a woman just let it happen then go to trial to watch the perp be released or incarcerated for a small amount of time? crime has gone unchecked. the police are not a deterrent, the laws are not a deterrent, even the death penalty is not a deterrent. but a gun in the face of a would be bad guy, now that is the ultimate deterrent.

I'm pretty sure that if I did have a gun on me and was attacked and shot the person in say, the foot, they would probably be in pain and think "hey, I need to go get medical attention instead of messing with this lady." I'm still not sure if a gun would be right for me, but I do think something would make me feel safer. By all means, use it. Yes SYR. Shoot, Yell, Run. Shoot: aim for the throat, because the spray will float upwards and more of it will end up in the nasal passages. Yell: "FIRE! HELP!" as you shoot. No, you can't do it in a theatre, unless there is a fire, but you can everywhere else. People will NOT run toward you if you shout anything else. Sad, but true. Run: toward the street, making a big, fat scene. Stop traffic. You are one of us, the criminal isn't. He needs cover, you don't. What more women, girls in particular, need to have encouraged in them is the knowledge that *<b>THEY <i>ARE</i> THE WEAPON.</b>* Their brain can make a tool out of ANYTHING. Literally.
