The Tornondo A. Pugh Lesson: Never Rob a Bank When You're Drunk at 8:30 a.m.
Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Yesterday, Pugh entered the First Merit Bank in downtown Akron in a clearly hammered state. He mumbled something to a teller, then noticed a moonlighting cop working security. So our dimwitted bandit decided it would be wiser to bolt than attempt this caper.
But the cop stopped him to see what was up. Pugh became belligerent and was arrested. A note demanding money was found in his pocket.
Since he seemed pretty hammered, we're not sure the note was legible enough to actually execute the robbery. Due to drunken penmanship, the teller might have mistaken it as a request for a second mortgage, which could have led to torturous hours of paperwork. For Pugh, a pinch for bank robbery might have been the preferable outcome.
The 33-year-old is now charged with attempted robbery, disorderly conduct, and a felonious inability to hold his liquor.
