Man blames girlfriend's threesome for murder
UPDATE: Police now say kidnapping story was fabricated, and that stepdad Brandon Lockett has admitted that Aveion was dead before he called police. See updated story here.![]()
Last night, three men burst into a duplex in Roanoke, Virginia, beating a man unconscious, tying up a 4-year-old girl, then kidnapping 2-year-old Aveion Malik Lewis. When the boy's stepdad regained consciousness, he found a note demanding money.![]()
Aveion Malik Lewis was kidnapped from his Virginia home after gunmen burst in and beat his stepdad, then tied his 4-year-old sister up
Police have yet to release any details on why the family was targeted, or why the kidnappers only stole Aveion. They're also not saying what kind of money the assailants are demanding.
Police believe the bad guys escaped in a 1990 Chevy Blazer. All three are described as black males. One is said to be in his late 20s, about 6-foot-2, with a stocky build and a beard. The second is described as muscular, 5-foot-11, with dreads and a light complexion, and wearing a St. Louis Cardinals hat. The third has a light complexion, thin frame, and is thought to be about 23-24 years old.
Aveion was last seen wearing yellow Sponge Bob Squarepants footie pajamas.

I hope he won't be hurt, poor innocent baby :(((((((
Posted 01/15/2010 at 02:10:16 PMI dont believe the stepdads story.I believe the child is dead and the stepdad did it.I hope Iam wrong.
Posted 01/15/2010 at 02:23:52 PMI would like to hear what the 4 year old has to say.......
Posted 01/15/2010 at 02:31:40 PMDoes the baby have bruises on his face in the picture? I pray this baby is not hurt...3 male assailants probably aren't exactly the nurturing type. Poor sweet baby boy.
Posted 01/15/2010 at 04:18:54 PMYou know its really sad when your no longer safe in your own home,I've lived here in Roanoke since I was 5 (1989) and it seems like crime has doubled just in the last ten years, My deepest condolenses to the father and I hope the child is brought home safely.
Posted 01/15/2010 at 05:32:15 PMAs soon as I read the report I said exactly what tja68 said. This story does not add up at all.
Posted 01/16/2010 at 12:41:30 AMThe ransom is for $10K & according to the uncle whose name was on the ransom note, it was written in 2 different "hand-writings". Apparently the ransom note was written on some paper (a medical bill) inside the apt. Not so sure I'm buying what they're selling here, but regardless, I want this baby found safe.
Posted 01/16/2010 at 12:59:11 AMThis is clearly not the simple kidnapping that the media are reporting. There is a boatload of information that is being withheld. That is very telling. When the police withhold information, there is a REASON. Kidnappers don't target people randomly, or people who don't have the means to pay ransom.
Who is the stepfather? I have yet to see him identified in any media report. What is his background and criminal history? Is he a known or suspected drug dealer? Are these people wealthy, or are they on welfare? Who is the mother, and where was she? Who is the father, and where is he? How do we know the prime suspect's name is Tony? Are the suspects known to the stepfather, and how? Have child protective services ever been involved with this family? How was the other child restrained? With materials that were present in the residence, or something the kidnappers brought with them?
That's just the beginning of the list. In a typical child abduction, a lot of information will be released. In this case, the silence is deafening. I suspect this is not a simple case of kidnapping for ransom. It doesn't look good for the little boy.
Posted 01/16/2010 at 04:54:22 AMDrug related? Is the kid hostage for an existing drug debt or something?
Posted 01/16/2010 at 06:51:04 AMHow does it not add up? Is there a different way "real" kidnappings work? I'm not ruling out the possibility the dad is doing something wrong, and I hope everything works out, but I assume the press release would read differently if the girl had seen something different than whats in print. 4 year old little girls aren't shy, if her dad did something wrong and is lying about the three guys, she would have already spilled the beans.
Posted 01/16/2010 at 12:31:21 PMI do not believe the story the step-father is giving. I think money is owed to someone and this is a plot to get the money one way or the other. I pray the child is returned safely and the one's responsible for this crime go to jail. I hope the proper people think about the other child that now needs protection from the home life things do not add up at all! Please Roanoke PD, the story stinks!
Posted 01/16/2010 at 01:31:27 PMI can't believe Im going to say this, but you guys are being way to quick to convict! (Im usually in this group.)
Details arent being released most likely to the severity of the situation. This isn't just a random kidnapping; if the ransom note is legitament then there is a reason why this child was taken.
Also, at four Im pretty sure she knows the difference between Step Daddy tied me up and did something with bubba, and big scarey men came in and hit Step Daddy then tied me up and took bubba. Its not like the story is the girl wasnt in the room and didn't hear anything.
If he did get her to lie, it will come out. 4 year olds don't go over lies detail by detail.
I'm also almost positive that they had a handwriting analasis done on the ransom note and the step father's writing. If they didn't, they'd be morons because you would think that would be the first step.
Another thing for you to think about is- someone had to see them leave in that Chevy Blazer because he was knocked out, a 4 year old wouldn't know what type of car it was, and the police would have put two and two together if he was knocked out but saw the get away car.
Just my thoughts. Someone has the boy, I don't believe its the step father but you never know.
Posted 01/16/2010 at 02:48:09 PMWhere is the FATHER in this?? This kid is TWO and he has a step-dad but no mention of his father?? An article on CBS News says that the 4 year old is HIS daughter but the 2 year old is not his?? This makes no sense - WHERE WAS THE MOTHER???
This has STINK all over it!

Posted 01/16/2010 at 03:31:13 PMI'm going to make an educated guess and say Step-Dad has more knowledge than he's saying. Home invasions don't happen out of the blue. Home invasions happen when the perps have a reasonable expectation there will definately be large amounts of cash in the house, so this is screaming, "DOPE IS INVOLVED!" Was Step-Dad selling contraband? Did Step-Dad owe someone? Did he make arrangements to have Aveion held as collateral until payment is made? This whole thing stinks and it sure is convenient that he "woke up" when he did. I I were doing the investigating, I'd get Step-Dad out of the way and have a serious talk with Mom. The cops need to search every square inch of that house... every box... every cabinet... every salt shaker, cookie jar and everything that opens. Home invasions are never random. They're planned... or they're faked.
Posted 01/18/2010 at 06:01:15 PMI am from the Eastern Shore of Virginia and the thought of this kind of home invasion terrifies me but seem's to me there is a whole lot more to the story. I think the stepdad potentially knows the kidnappers if there are any at all? Or some time of link that has'nt been unearthed yet.
Posted 01/18/2010 at 09:56:35 PMI knew I smelled a rotten crappy lie from that step-dad!

Posted 01/19/2010 at 06:24:32 PMThank you Tockobelle for letting us now. This is sad news to get. I was really hoping Aveion would be one of the few child abductions that would have been solved and the child returned safely. I'm sad to say I was wrong. Rest in peace little Aveion. =(
The site he/she gave the link to said-
Titled:
"Roanoke police say missing toddler was dead before 911 call"
"Step-father tells police the toddler is dead
In a news conference late Tuesday afternoon Roanoke City police say they do NOT believe that 2-year-old Aveion Lewis was abducted. Chief Joe Gaskins says they think the toddler was dead before the 911 call was made last Thursday. The step-father, Brandon Lockett, is in custody but has not been charged with a crime. Police say Lockett has confessed that the baby died and was not abducted.
Gaskins says police were getting various degrees of cooperation from the step-father which led them to believe that he was not providing accurate details.
Gaskins would not comment on whether the child's mother was involved in the case."
