Mia Landingham, 300 Pounds, Convicted of Suffocating Boyfriend by Sitting on Him

• Whether she meant to or not is irrelevant.  She took a life (plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter), and that should be automatic jail time.  This isn't about her.  This is about the guy who will never be around to see his children grow up.   What about this guy's family who will never see their son, brother, friend, ever again.   "I didn't mean to" shouldn't be an acceptable excuse for not doing jail time.

• I'm a woman and I agree with you.  If a 300 lb fat man punched and smothered a 120 lb woman this would be a very different story indeed.  Poor guy ...This female judge is a moron

• If you are driving and accidentally swerve and kill someone you shouldn't go to jail because you didn't "mean to do it"?  No, you would get manslaughter and several years in jail.  This fat sack of crap should have gotten jail time, especially since she pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter.  This wasn't a "mistake".  If you're a big adult and you sit on a child and suffocate them is that a mistake too??  Everyone knows exactly what happens when a fat ass sits on a skinny person.

• Women can be abusers too.  I actually have a fat, 300+ lb bitchy friend who bosses around her 200 lb boyfriend constantly.  She treats him like dirt.  Just because he was a man, doesn't mean he was the abuser.  She was physically bigger than him and knew exactly what she was doing when she sat on him.  She knew her strength and size would win.  Shame that she didn't get jail time for killing someone.

• Yeah, I got probation and almost as much community service for DRIVING WITHOUT A LICENSE when I was 15. Not even a moving violation, not even breaking any traffic laws... just the lack of a license. And this lady killed someone and got the same. Unbelievable.

• What a bunch of sadistic dolts. Punishment is utterly pointless if it doesn't have a consturctive purpose. Yes, she KILLED him, but punishing her for an ACCIDENT isn't going to be do anything. She doesn't need reformed for a mistake. It's just arbitrary. And only in a truly sick society do people want to assuage grief by hurting SOMEONE ELSE! Punishment should never be used to make someone feel better, unless they're a bunch of sadistic sickos, as evidently most of you are. Punishment should be a constructive tool with a logical, reformative purpose--not a toy thrown about at whimsy to calm every feeling of anger or grief. I'm glad the judge had the sense to see that punishment is not an idea to take lightly. It's the knee-jerks like the rest of you who are dangerous to our courthouses.

Women are passed up for jobs all the time simply because "men can do certain things better than women". Like what? • Why is anyone surprised at the ruling? That man was of no useful value to the Judge. And she identified with the murderer. So why wouldn't the Judge give her an easy sentence, given no consequences to her? Realistically, how many people wouldn't kill or seriously injure a crapload of people for: Driving too slow/fast, Having the audacity to breath their air, Failure to kiss yo' fly ass, Failure too take shit from you and like it, et. al, if they could get away with it? C'mon, those of us who're "Christians," know damned well that if we're "saved," we can do whatever the hell we want, as long as we're really, really sorry about it before we die. • I'm not upset with the sentencing. I sympathize with her too. She didn't mean to kill him. How many times have each one of you have either thought or said "Just sit on them" when you see a heavy person verses a small person. Come on, be serious, I know I have! I never meant "sufficate the small sob" when I've said it. In fact, if I were there and didn't notice him not breathing I would have found it humerous. The thing of it is, no one tries to kill someone by sitting on them. If she wanted him dead she could have done it a million ways that didn't cause her the humiliation this one did. • I agree Cheryl, if she can get probation for accidentally killing someone by suffocation, shouldn't every person that unintentionally kills someone get off the hook? Of course not, she shouldn't have gotten away with it so easily. I assume that the judge felt sorry for her, but come on. This is ridiculous. Also, there are obviously two people using Concerned Citizen as an alias on this site so I am from now on just using Concerned so as to keep the confusion down.
