Last September, we told you to tale of Rev. Jonathan Ayers, a young Baptist minister. He had offered a ride to Kayla Barrett in Toccoa, Georgia. But unbeknownst to him, detectives were following her as part of a drug sting...

Ayers dropped Barrett off, then proceeded to a convenience store. Detectives assumed he might be a new connect they hadn't known about before, so they followed him. When he came out of the store, undercover cops pulled their weapons. Ayers apparently panicked, believing he was being robbed. So he tried to flee the parking lot in his car.

But police thought he was trying to run them over. They opened fire. Ayers died a short time later after his car was found crashed not far away. (See the convenience store video of the shooting here.)

At the time, the reverend was depicted as a gracious soul who was simply helping out a woman with drug problems. People in Toccoa were incensed that reckless police could so brazenly gun down a minister who was merely doing God's work.

But it turns out that Ayers was doing more carnal work the day -- at least if you believe Barrett. She says she met the pastor at a bar in 2005. Since then, they'd meet monthly for sex, though Ayers was married.

His cell phone records indicate he called her 20 times over a four-hour period that day, suggesting their relationship was more than pastor-parishioner bonding. He also gave her $50 just before he was killed.

The police have since been cleared of wrongdoing in the shooting, but there's a very good chance a lawsuit lies in wait.
