San Francisco State University's reputation for activism dates back to the civil rights era. The school's protest keggers, however, still leave something to be desired. Yes it's time again for Campus Blotter: the eyes, ears, and overworked liver of academia...

A benefit party held last weekend to raise money for previous protesters' legal bills resulted in 11 new arrests. Thus, those who raised the funds will now need cash of their own to mount a legal defense -- a phenomenon sociologists refer to as activism's "cycle of perpetual assholery."

Several hundred people were at the warehouse party when police were welcomed with a traditional shower of beer bottles and explosives. It was right about when the fire marshal was denied entry that cops transitioned into beatdown mode, according to partygoers.

"There was no other choice but to make sure this party was stopped," San Francisco police officer Samson Chan told The San Francisco Chronicle.

Ten people were arrested for public drunkenness, and a 23-year-old male faces felony assault charges for whipping an M-80 at a cop.

The party was thrown in response to dozens of arrests made last fall at San Francisco State and other campuses across California when students protested tuition increases and layoffs by staging a 24-hour sit-in that disrupted class schedules.

In the wake of last weekend's arrests, student organizers are considering a bake sale to offset the mounting costs of their activism.
