Cathryn Lake was having marital problems with her husband, Douglas. They'd separated and subsequently reconciled. He seemed to believe things were going relatively well. What he didn't know is that wifey had a boyfriend on the side, and they wanted him dead...

Cathryn, from Tyler, Texas, worked for the state department of corrections. Her boyfriend, Rudy Regalado, was a prison guard. Unbeknownst to Douglas, they'd both decided he would be better off dead so they could collect his $150,000 life insurance policy.

That's when they hatched a plan -- a rather poor one, but a plan nonetheless. Rudy told an inmate that Douglas was a rat against a street gang, figuring the gang would kill him for free. But the inmate instead called the cops, and together they set up a sting.

The inmate arranged for Cathryn and Rudy to meet the supposed hit man at his office. Unfortunately, he happened to be an ATF agent, and the whole thing was being filmed. On the tape, they can be heard laughing and conversing as if this was any living room conversation.

At one point the undercover asks Cathryn, "You don't mind if your husband ends up getting killed?"

"Yes, I can live with that," she responds. At which point Rudy chimes in: "I'm not going to say what's right or wrong. He's my judge," he said, then pointed to the ceiling.

They also provided the undercover with a pistol to do the shooting.

Douglas was stunned when he found his wife wanted him dead. He initially filed for divorce, but has since pulled his petition. When asked at sentencing if he wanted the murder case against his wife dropped, he said yes.

But neither the judge nor the prosecutor's office were feeling that lenient. Cathryn and Rudy were both sentenced to 20 years in the slam.
