Eddie Salazar's Claim that Masked Men Kidnapped, Murdered Son Is Bogus, Say Police

​No one seems to know yet what really happened to 8-month-old Eddie Salazar Jr., but police seem pretty certain that he wasn't kidnapped and killed by masked intruders, as his dad claims...

Police in Carthage, Missouri issued an Amber Alert last Thursday when Eddie Sr. reported that two masked men had broken into his home, ransacking the place and beating dad to a state of unconsciousness. When he woke up, 8-month-old Eddie Jr. was gone.

​But that story didn't pan out when Eddie Sr. gave police the name of one of the supposed masked men. Detectives found the guy Saturday morning and ruled him out as a suspect. Later that day, police found the dead baby floating in the Spring River, his body wedged against a tree by the bank.

An autopsy's expected to be concluded today, but police have called off their search for the masked men. The investigation now centers on Eddie Sr., who's been charged with filing a false police report.

Judging by the $100,000 bond -- a massive figure for such a minor crime -- it appears that detectives believe Eddie Sr. is their perp. If they're right, he would be the second father since the new year to call in a fake abduction of a young son, only for police to later reveal that dad is the real killer.
