• I know johansen, he dated my friends little sister. i meet him a few months b4 he was arrested. he was really creepy. he used to take my friends sister out to this nice little spot in the woods and read poetry to her, turns out it was the same spot where the bodies were beried. how sick is that!!!??? (don't know if this is true) but i have heard through the grapevine from other people that knew him that he was bragging about the reason he killed them was for 500 bucks to buy a motorcycle. when i meet him he was driving a motercycle!

• The funny thing is that there are only bits and pieces here. Winters actually killed both women because the other started and couldn't finish it. And they did it over $500. Sad world we live in. Update the blog.

I doubt very seriously he was able to bail out, as they are saying he killed them both by choking them with his bare hands. The shallow graves they found these two women in were behind his father's house. I'd say they have a pretty rock solid case, and would have set bail high enough for him to remain incarcerated this entire time. I can't find anything specific about that though.

• my oldest son said that he seen nick @ the mall on friday (3-26-10). i have been on the benton co. jail website and i can not find if he is still in custody or has been released. if anyone has any info on this i would appreciate it, nick's girlfriend is my son's ex-girlfriend and while they were going out she told my son that he thinks about his brother's (my younger sons) too much and he should "get rid" of them so he wouldn't think about them anymore. i am scared for my children and i am just trying to keep them safe.

• my children have known nick almost their whole lives,he had been in my house on several occasions. i knew his mom, and grandmother through my work.i didn't make the connection till their bodies were found and nick was arrested. my whole family is sick over the whole thing.

• I knew both of those women, and despite whatever might have happened in the past, every time I spoke to Christina she had NOTHING but good things to say about her son. I hope he rots in hell, which he almost certainly will. And for those of you defending him, I guess think of your own mother's and grandmother's, and try to reason away an excuse if someone had done something similar to that to them.

• I am so tired of hearing all this crap about an insanity plea or mental disturbances. I used to work with the mentally ill in a behavioral hospital. If this was a case him being mentally ill it was appearant that he was stable enough to be in the general public, but not taking his meds appropriately or abusing other meds or substances on top of it. Either way this man decided his own fate whether he was mentally ill or not. Mentally ill does not mean you get a pass. Everybody should be held accountable for there actions. He made decisions to not care enough to get help. No symapthy here, he along with so many others are just a waste of time, money, and oxygen. He is of no positive influence to society. get him off this planet.

• I've met the mom and the son. I've hugged the mom, shook the son's hand. I even made a small threat to the son about being nice to a mutual friend. The mom drank heavily and had very grand visions for her son (as most mother's do), but I never met the grandmother, the father or the personal friend (inmate Winters). I never liked him, but as his friends have said, he DID have mental problems. He even had brain surgery at one point. He was not well, but he was not "crazy." At the same time, I believe with 99.99% certainty that he is the one responsible for the deaths of his mother and grandmother. The judge responsible for finding lawyers for the case has also said that Mr. Johansen's lawyer must be certified to work a death penalty case. P.S. - Johnny Rocket: I agree. P.P.S - Cronky: Murder IS wrong and it IS strange that people often feel "sorry" for the murderers, as if something could have been done at some point to keep it from happening.

• Wow, all the friends coming on here to post comments about how offended they are at this article is a bit disturbing. You are all as troubled as your supposed friend. Matricide is a disgusting crime and sin against humanity. Being "troubled" is certainly no excuse. We hear too often from "friends" of murderers, "Well, if you only understood what he's been through." This kind of moral relativism is the cancer of our society. If his friends were so worried about his mental health then perhaps they should have gotten him help. It's not hard to pick up a phone and report someone who is a danger to themselves or in this case others. In fact the police would rather be called in order to protect lives before being called to investigate murders and have to arrest people. Either way this should never have happened and quite possibly could have been prevented. Had he been gotten the help he needed for whatever "mental problems" he had his mother and grandmother wouldn't be dead and he wouldn't be in jail.

• I only new her as a sweet little old lady . Very thoughtful , kind , and caring . She was so proud of her late husband and talked fondly of him and how she came to the USA . Had an accent. She was someone that certainly didn't deserve to be killed . Both she and her daughter were frail. Louise was tiny .
