One girl who admits on one of her websites that she called Phoebe Prince an irish whore and who stands accused of being one of those bleepholes who kept up the crap after Phoebe died, was interviewed by ABC News a few days after the death. There appear to have been no disciplinary actions taken against her.

• I'm a retired schoolteacher, and I know firsthand the effects of bullying on students. Students have different temperaments. Some can weather the storm of bullying and others cannot. I lost four male students as a result of bullying during my years in the classroom. Each of them became so depressed that he took a gun and shot himself in the head. I can imagine how devastating it was to these students parents because I was also very upset about it. Each of these were very intelligent, and good students who had bright futures ahead, but because of bullying they made the decision to blow their brains out. This had an effect on the entire school and town because it is a small community. It's bad enough for Phoebe's parents to go through this, but it's even worse for it to be taken too lightly. It happens much more frequently than the public can imagine. The system where I worked had strict anti-bullying rules, but we had no control or knowledge of the bullying that spilled from the school into community setting where these students would run into each other. In a town where they're only a few places to hang out, it was unavoidable. This almost constant bullying and shunning made these young men feel that they'd rather die than continue putting up with it. If this is the only choice our society can offer these most precious resources that commit suicide and leaving so much devastation in its' wake, then what is important to us? Shouldn't we as a whole make our distaste for bullying public the way the citizens in south Hadley did? or are we going to give our silent assent to the practice by not demanding that it be abolished?
