Scott and Andrea Bass thought their 14-year-old daughter was stealing food and cheating in her home school courses. So they did what any sadistic parents would do for punishment: They locked her in the bathroom and proceeded to torture her...

Police believe the girl was locked in the room with no running water for two months. Dad would give her meager cans of food, crackers and bread every day or two, but it wasn't enough to subsist. Especially since she was on a non-stop exercise regimen.

As part of her punishment, the girl was forced to exercise till exhaustion. If she stopped, she was beaten with belts and metal rods or had her hair yanked. And it's not like the Basses were helping her stay fit. The girl was both underweight and physically stunted for her age.

She was forced to sleep on the patio in the heat of the Phoenix summer. She was locked in a closet for a week with no light. And she was also locked up in the bathroom.

But that all came to an end when the girl decided to escape. She crawled through the ceiling of a closet and into the attic, then kicked out a loose board and escaped before someone called the police. When cops arrived, they found a bathroom locked from the outside. The Basses let them in, surprised to find the girl gone. All that was left was a bucket the girl used for her toilet and empty food containers.

The Basses admitted locking the girl away as punishment. Andrea Bass, perhaps on a quest for Wicked Stepmother of the Year, also told detectives she wanted nothing more to do with the girl.

Where Mrs. Bass is going, that shouldn't be a problem. The couple is charged with
unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping, failure to report neglect of a minor, and child abuse.
