Weird Teacher Watch: Francisco Olivares Gets Paid to Not Have Sex With Students

Today's Weird Teacher Watch returns us to the halls of New York City's public schools, where teacher Francisco Olivares makes a handsome living in exchange for not knocking up the district's students...
An educator for more than 32 years, Olivares dispensed his best lesson a generation ago: Kids, stay away from the creepy guy with the grabby hands.
Back in his first years on the job, he allegedly impregnated and married a 16-year-old girl who had once been a 13-year-old student at the junior high school where he taught.
Ten years later, he was charged with molesting two 12-year-olds. A jury found Olivares guilty of sharing pornographic pictures with one girl, photographing her with her pants down, and rubbing her backside -- but the conviction was reversed on a technicality.
Four more years later, new allegations surfaced that he molested yet another student.
Now 60, Olivares has spent the last seven years in the district's notorious "rubber room," where teachers are assigned while claims of wrongdoing against them are investigated.
You may remember the rubber room from our previous installments about the libidinous teachers at New York's James Madison High School -- aka Horndog High. Four female teachers from that school have been confined to the rubber room for their alleged trysts with students...and each other.
These days, the rubber room is filled to bursting: Some 660 teachers are being paid to do nothing, though most are assigned there only temporarily.
Olivares, on the other hand, has become a lifer. Efforts by the department of education to oust him twice were quashed by an arbitrator.
"The department's hands are tied by state law and union rules," spokeswoman Ann Forte told the New York Post. So they continue to write checks and be thankful that he's safely hidden away from the children.
