Weird Teacher Watch: Gym Teacher Steve Hilton Charged With Roughing Up Students

Sheriff's investigators say the 55-year-old middle school science and gym teacher roughed up almost a dozen kids at the Eastern Hancock school system in Indiana.
Their probe yielded accusations that Hilton dangled one student upside down by the ankles over a trash can, injured others by squeezing pressure points, and even choked one student.
Hilton "choked her hard enough that her face turned red and she couldn't breathe," one student said, according to an affidavit.
He is also charged with forcing a girl to sit on his lap and rubbing multiple students on the back and butt, but investigators say no evidence of sexual misconduct exists.
The students in question are all between 11 and 12 years old.
Hilton admitted to police that he has touched the students, but claims he was just playing around and intended no harm. According to court documents, Hilton has also admitted to using such tactics in the past.
A teacher with the Eastern Hancock school district for 32 years, Hilton has been suspended with pay while the district conducts an internal investigation. He entered a not-guilty plea to nine battery counts, two of which are felonies.
A pretrial hearing is slated for April 8.
