It was a grand caper -- at least in Anna Ayala's mind. Brian Rossiter had lost his ring finger in a job accident. So Ayala decided to buy it for 100 bucks. Then she cooked it in a batch of chili at her Las Vegas home and kept it in the freezer for storage...

Her plan: to shake down Wendy's.

She drove to a San Jose Wendy's and ordered the chili. Then she put the finger in the bowl, pretended to bite it, and submitted a fine performance in her role as Woman Goes Hysterical After Finding Severed Finger in Her Food. Judges for the Daytime Emmy's, however, were not impressed.

Ayala was naturally hoping for a handsome payoff for her traumatic experience. And news of the incident caused Wendy's to lose an estimated $21 million in business. But after some frantic investigative work, detectives soon learned that this wasn't Wendy's fault; Ayala was merely running a scam.

She spent four years in prison. Her husband Jaime
Plascencia is still sitting there. But they both went to jail without spilling the secrets to their plot.

Ayala has now confessed to CBS-5 TV the details of the scam. Though she never managed to get a dime from Wendy's, she did receive something arguably better: She's banned from Wendy's for life.

For as everyone knows, Burger King is way better.
