The 21-year-old student at Kalamazoo Valley Community College was halfway through the school's police academy program when he was arrested earlier this month for using the internet to arrange sex with a teenage girl.
According to investigators from the Michigan Attorney General's office, Thornberry used the internet handle "big_dave5188" to make advances with a girl he thought was 14 years old. She was actually an undercover officer who was part of a sexual-predator sting, thus severely hampering Thornberry's odds of scoring.
He pleaded not guilty to six felony counts of online solicitation of sex from a minor and two felony counts of disseminating sexually explicit material online.
"He's a very nice young man and never has been in any trouble of any kind," attorney Bob Kostin helpfully informed the Kalamazoo Gazette.
Despite being very nice and also young, Big Dave has been bounced from the cop-training program as he awaits his trial date.
